Thats a lot of responsibility for a guy who has been struggling in bottom pairing minutes for the 2nd straight season.
I think with the support of Reilly, a healthy Tanev and McCabe, I think they're in pretty good shape.

Again, I think the player was a bad fit for Edmonton, but it should be a decent fit for Toronto, they can have OEL as a fully bottom-pairing guy.

I remember when Holland was hired, many people making excuses that Chia left him with a thin roster and no cap space. Well, Treliving received pretty much the same thing from Dubas and was able to add Tanev, OEL, and Carlo to their d-core in 10 months. 3 top 4 defensemen. Good GMs do their job and don’t make excuses.

So you don't remember 1.5 months ago when consensus was our d was one of the best in the NHL?

Buckle up Oil fans, we are running with game seven Stu.
Bowman’s answer about goaltending was hilarious. He talked and talked and basically tried to baby and shelter Stu and his bad play. He flat out admitted how inconsistent he is and tried to blame it on the team. It’s infuriating how bad the gm’s have been over the years in regard to the goaltending position. Even much of the media thinks goaltending isnt the biggest problem. It’s insane. lol

Yeah it wasn't ideal, more effort should have been put forward here, at least it seems to tell me they will look for more significant changes in the offseason.

I mean what do you want Bowman to say? To call out a fragile Skinner?

The truth is that the goalie market sucked and this is Skinners chance to redeem himself. If not you can bet that's the first thing Bowman upgrades in the offseason.

It did suck, but there were plenty of upgrades for Pickard at least, and some effort should have been put forward here.

I still think Pickard and a 4th would get you Anton Forsberg and he's an upgrade. Something similar might have gotten them Allen or maybe just a straight 3rd would get Lyon, to give them a 3rd option. (Though the Detroit weirdness happened pretty late)

I mean sure you could upgrade pickard but unless its someone that's better than Skinner, it will still be Skinners net during the playoffs.

Yeah…Stan isn’t going to sewer Skinner now that we’re stuck with him for the rest of the season.

Looks like you're trying to take his words and suit them to your narrative, he said the goalies should be better but also the team shouldn't be giving up multiple break ways and HDSC to rely on the goalies to steal a game to win, rather than the team skaters and goalies together playing good enough to win.

When this team has a decent attention to detail, they win games like they did mid Nov to mid Jan when Skinner had the 4-8th best save percentage in the league. And thats the truth for the majority of teams, its a team game and goaltending is not only between the pipes but the whole 200ft game to get quality results.

Goalies were available but keep telling yourself that. Let the cope kick in.

Vancouver says hi. Or Calgary... destined to remain in mediocrity.

The only reason the Oilers are better are because of some lottery balls bouncing their way, not because they are better managed.

Well that's the Oilers organization in a nutshell ... they're more concerned with Stuart Skinner's feelings than winning a Cup.

How do you leave 3+ million unspent in a do or die year where you'll never have Draisaitl and Bouchard for this cheap again? Team is full of shit when they say they are serious about winning. They just "kinda, sorta" want it, really they just want McDavid to carry them to a Cup.

That was my wish all along, since Merilainen will be their future, they even have Sogaard, a good GM would of found a way to strike a deal with Staios. Or any other GM for that fact, heck half the starters in the AHL are better that this childish dip shit.

Pretty much. They gambled on him improving this year (which was somewhat understandable after most of the playoffs) and then there weren't good upgrades available. I'm sure they would've made different decisions in hindsight. Just sucks that hindsight would've changed so many of management's decisions.

It does suck that they have quite a bit of unused cap space with Kane out until the playoffs. I was hoping they'd use every dollar of it. But I guess they are really planning for both this year and next and this was too much of a seller's market to make other acquisitions worth it.
