I want to see Jones with Drai. Based on us not being able to offload any forwards, is there even a scenario where we can keep jones up with the big club for an extended period of time with skinner/arv having nmc? Surely Krapanen's time is done, but what happens when Kane comes back and Frederic?

I have a feeling we've cucked ourselves and can't even run all of these new fwds + Kane together lol
We are cap compliant with everyone up right now.

We have 2 right now

Sorry, couldn’t resist.

I remember when Holland was hired, many people making excuses that Chia left him with a thin roster and no cap space. Well, Treliving received pretty much the same thing from Dubas and was able to add Tanev, OEL, and Carlo to their d-core in 10 months. 3 top 4 defensemen. Good GMs do their job and don’t make excuses.

Podkolzin - McDavid - Hyman
RNH - Draisaitl - Arvi
Kane - Henrique - Skinner
Janmark - Frederic - Brown
Jones - Ryan - Kapanen

Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - Kulak
Walman - Emberson
Stecher - Klingberg

This roster has the bodies to catch fire if Knoblauch can manage to light one underneath them.

There's way too many forwards, developing chemistry in a short stretch is going to be a problem. Also I mean Corey Perry comes out when he's been like probably the third best forward this year, lol.

I think their only prayer is to do everything to get a second line going. I would put Frederic in the Patrick Maroon spot and see if that can do anything.

RNH McDavid Frederic
Hyman Draisaitl Arvidsson

Is something I might look at.

Right now we don't really have an actual 2nd line that's reliable, let alone multiple lines going.

And added Stolarz too. Have to admit that's a tidy bit of work in about a year.

Hate to say it, but Bouchard to Carolina might be worth a look this summer. His contract might be a bit of an issue and they just opened up a ton of cap flexibility moving on from Rantanen.

He's a true elite offensive D, but I'm not sure he's the type of gamebreaker that deserves a $10m price tag.

When Holland was hired, his needs were depth, defense, and goaltending. Fast forward half a decade….

Oilers are definitely the worst managed team in Canada. Staois even is doing well in Ottawa, fleeced Buffalo today. Chychrun deal was bad but his other moves have been largely good. I would take literally any other Canadian team's front office over what we've had.

Vancouver says hi. Or Calgary... destined to remain in mediocrity.

Oh shit, yeah, forgot about Perry.

Yeah, there are quite a few forwards. Developing chemistry certainly has been a problem, but it does give the team options in the instance that injuries do occur.

Last season our 4C option was a toss up between Derek Ryan and Sam Carrick. I think that it's safe to say we're looking better this year if we manage to get healthy.

OEL isn't a top 4 dman. Tanev is a solid add this year, but that deal could haunt them in the near future.

Toronto has the cap for Tanev, OEL is a bottom pair guy and Carlo is a shell of his former self and they paid 2 large assets for it. Congrats?

Treliving is a good GM? Not sure I can agree with that. He f***ed the Flames (good!) and the Leafs moves haven't been very good under his watch. Signed some absolute trash to bloated deals (ex: Reaves is one of the worst players in the league and should never have been close to that contract.) Carlo is a bottom pairing D that's good on the PK (he sucked with Boston lately). Tanev and OEL are solid second pairing guys at the moment.

Look I'm as anti-Leaf as they come.

Carlo is not bottom pair. I'd say he isn't his peak top pair form either.

Tanev is a top 5 shut-down dman in this league. He's definitely top pair. Just not a #1 dman

No way Bouchard even asks for 10 after the season he had. I wonder if he tries to do a 3-4 year deal at around 8 then cash in after that.

Who's gonna be the one to break it to him? I assume he just woke up from a 5 year coma.
