I mean in theory there was nothing stopping us from making a move on say Jack Eichel when he was available. Canadian teams are managed by a bunch of losers anyway, no one willing to make a real big swing other than Vancouver aggressively trading for Calgary's garbage.

Well yeah, we're just entering probably an era where lame duck managers like Bowman are just going to get exposed more obviously.

The NHL is probably entering into a super-team era, much like the NBA was going through about 12-15 years ago. So probably a new era of have vs have nots is coming.

McDavid and other guys like Matthews and Draisaitl will probably have to accept they have to go that route eventually too.

That's the point. If a few years ago, a guy like Parayko says he wants to be traded to a contender in Canada, we can likely upgrade on Ceci and probably have a cup.

Yup, Florida was hardly on players' radars until their Cup runs. Sure players went there if paid well enough but it wasn't the same as it is today. It's a good destination in part because they're a well run organization.
