Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | If Babcock is Our New Coach Will Players Want to Come Here?

Burns was better than I was expecting him to be last season, I think he also signed for cheaper than I was expecting.

I know some think of Burns as an over the hill Bouch, but I will say Burns has really good PK numbers across multiple seasons, far better in that respect than people give him credit for.
He has also become way more a shutdown guy in his older age which is why I wanted him to play with Nurse last year. Cest le vie

Not going to lie, I hate this approach. Teams are going to hold your feet to the fire, if you're dealing from such a position of weakness.

Also the young goalie you bring in has a high chance of getting Skinner'ed. This isn't a take your time and grow into the role backup job, this is a "Oh god, we can't play Campbell/Jarry, and you're our only hope kid. No Pressure"

I would have gotten this had he gone after Woll, but any combo of Jarry and Cossa, Dipietro, or Levi is setting everyone up to up to fail.

Jarry can't handle a starter's load without breaking down. Jarry game might also just break down, because he's an inconsistent mess... Just bring Ingram back on a short, cheap deal, and let him set a baseline for goaltending at average.

Constantly putting themselves into a position of weakness and then suffering the consequences is a core tenet of being in Oilers management.

They did this to themselves by stubbornly sticking with Stuart Skinner until it was 2 years past the point where it was clear he wasn't it.

Not a bad deal by Colorado. Nuke was great, now he sucks, cap space and picks to deal for a replacement.
Seems like something this current version of the Oilers should do with Nuge, but won’t because of reasons.
This organization seems so dang stagnated these days.

The problem is the Oilers don't have any expendable players on big contracts that other teams actually want.

Just read this. Not sure what article

Spectors latest article. Just confirmed it

Id sign Ingram in a heartbeat. Woodley did a deep dive and said Ingram had better underlying metrics compared to all rumored goalies available. He had top 7 goalie metrics before his mom died. A full summer of training and being mentally healthy may be just what the Oilers need

Well , there’s Nuge. There’s such a demand for centres in the league, and at his cap hit, there should be a good return.
And it’s not like he’s not replaceable with the Oilers. He hasn’t been a center in ages.
Bring in Macelli from a rebuilding Leafs for peanuts and he’d probably put up similar numbers.
They really have to start cutting some throats.

I get the sentiment but not Nuge. The poor guy has suffered here longer than any other player in Oilers history. Once he plays 7 games this year he will the longest serving oiler ever. There is cut throat and then there is a 1500 game Modano level screw job. His cap is perfectly fine for what he brings at this stage in his career.

Also Pickard. Could have had Dipietro for free. Kept Pickard. Should have sent down Pickard in the first month and saw what you had in Ingram- kept Pickard. Ended up trading for Jarry and sending down Pickard anyways

I heard on the radio the other day he’s frustrated every team including Colorado uses him as a top 4 guy but no one wants to pay him as one.
That’s because he isnt consistent when he plays in the top 4. He’s a really good 3rd pairing guy that you can move up in a pinch. The longer he plays in the top 4 the more his weaknesses are exposed.

Except Ingram was nowhere near ready to come up in the first month of the year. He was still working his way back into things.

Ingram was statistically the worst goaltender in the AHL when he was called up.

It was a tough spot to be in but at least in hindsight Bowman sure does look pretty silly for not at least taking a real look at what he had in this player before bringing in Jarry.

Wasn't the rumour that the players didn't want Pickard sent down so they didn't do it? I think the plan was to bring up Ingram during the Florida road trip.

This is true it was more about his mental state though that was the concern than his play. He was not in a good place for over a year. I can give a pass on not rushing him and I hate Bowman more than most here.
