Carolina might have a slight tax advantage on a handful of teams, but they aren't one of the income tax free states like Florida, Vegas, Dallas etc.

The Stankoven deal in particular saved their ass. Their scouts/GM needed to deliver there, and they hit it out of the park, that's franchise altering and the difference between a Cup and no Cup.

They also aren't some historic destination market either.

In fact they're 18 months removed from their first real superstar acquisiton taking one look at their contending roster and telling them to get him the hell out of there.

Yeah they did a real good job pulling that one out after giving up Necas for Rantanen.

This is a team that had back to back years of elite wingers not wanting to commit to their franchise still managing to put together a winner.

How much would it cost to slide Hutson in ?
Nothing, as he’d be interchangeable with any cheap contract listed on the roster right now like Clattenburg. I did miss putting Podkolzin on those mock lines though, so it’s pretty full up front with a Tuch signing. Hutson is decent insurance if injuries hit though. Could step in almost anywhere for limited stints.

They won a Cup basically on that deal. They don't come up with that, they don't win the Cup this year, simple as that.

Moves like that are the difference.

Well they wouldn't likely have won without those adds (Stankoven, Ehlers, Miller) ... probably not.

This is not like some kindegarten game where everyone gets a turn to be fair. You have to make Cups happen, they don't just fall out of the sky. You have to make a lot of good moves generally to win a Cup.
You're omitting the importance of the guy that they drafted--Jackson Blake. Whose elite competiveness and puck retrieval elevated the line that got them there. You're also omitting the importance of the big shutdown D that had been there all along. Yes, they made smart trades, they signed a big UFA, but they were already most of the way there prior.

I mean yeah sure, we do none of any of those things though, lol.

They draft well, trade well, sign good players, buy low and they have a Cup to show for it.

Bowman will sign Murphy and give Bobrovsky an 8 year deal. Everyone go home. Saved you the suspense

I can actually see them wanting to sign Bobrovsky in a desperate bid to try and impress McDavid ("see! we got a 2x Cup winner who beat us! See we're serious about winning too!"), but I don't think he will sign here and I don't think they even know how to move Jarry with the assets they have.

Possible, if we trade Nurse to Buffalo for Tuch's rights. currently have 10,587,501 available according to Puckpedia.

But we will still need to replace Nurse when we trade him.
No you dont. Walman will slide into the 2LD spot

I had hope for this offseason, it has all but completely evaporated today.

Florida makes a huge move with nothing significant off their cup winning roster going out, for a premier pwf in the league. And we sign a 4th line C for $4m. Like we cant even complain about the taxes, our management isnt in the same world as theirs.

And it helps not having a giant chunk of your cap locked up in four players. Different team build. And you won't hear me arguing about the drafting. This team has been horrendous at it since the cap was introduced.

Don’t worry guys, Bowman can still find a way to decrease our draft capital and our cap space while making the team on the ice worse

I'm actually morbidly curious what stupid move he will try this summer once he spends $9+ mill on Murphy + Dickinson.

Requires a very specific set of moves:

-Our 2nd this year for Cossa (extended $1.5M x 2) or Lyon (makes the same)
-Nurse, our 3rd this year, and 2nd in 2027 for Justin Brazeau (a Pens fan proposed this and I liked it)
-Sign Carson Soucy or a similar LD for around $3M (Soucy might take a Kulak esque deal to sign at home, Stauffer has mentioned him for literal years)
-Extend Dach for around $1.2M
-Extend Murphy 7 x $4.5M

Leaves $8M for Tuch, which would be a bit of a discount in this environment:

Hyman-McDavid-Savoie
RNH-Draisaitl-Tuch
Podkolzin-Dickinson-Brazeau
Dach-Samanski-Frederic
Janmark

Ekholm-Bouchard
Walman-Murphy
Soucy-Emberson
Regula

Jarry
Cossa/Lyon

Like $700K in cap but again those are very favourable guesses, any more for Tuch and it’s not possible really
I think you can go 10 on tuch and grab a cheap 3rd pair dman, try to accrue some space and trade a 2nd to fill the hole at the deadline.

This team is bad at every aspect of managing a hockey team, lol. Trades? We suck. UFA signings? We suck. Getting a goalie? We suck. Drafting? We suck. We're not good at any of these things.
