I’m so f***ing sick of “dollar in dollar out”. Have some foresight, plan ahead and have some flexibility. They do this full time and are supposed to be experts, I just want COMMON SENSE.
Signing guys like RV and Skinner short-term in the off-season is incredibly short-sighted when guys of that caliber are regularly available as deadline rentals for mid-round draft picks.

The Oilers should've re-signed the youth this summer and ended up a few million below the cap ceiling with the intention of accruing deadline cap space.

Less flash, more logic.

So, @Fourier. With the potential cap chaos, what's your deadline outlook?

If you're making a big deadline splash, is your attention moving to an ELC player or two if Kane is locked in place?
I have to say I am not at all sure how this should or will plays out.

It's a weird year with so many teams thinking they still have a chance. In the east there are really only 2 teams that can pretty much write the playoffs off. There are 5 or six teams that have individually low actual odds to make it but that might very well feel that they are in a solid position to compete for a wildcard spot and 2 others that could probably convince themselves that they are still in the hunt. Yet there are some really good names that could be difference makers for a team like the Oilers if any of them decided to be sellers.

In the West there are 5 teams with almost no chance. But those teams don't have a lot of assets to drool over that I think are realistically available. There are a couple of goalies we have spoken about but for me I think that Gibson might be the best option if he is available and the price is right.

The Kane situation is a huge factor in this. Without a resolution I really don't know if this management has teh creativity to make significant changes.

There aren't a lot of forwards especially that get to this status for me, but Arvidsson is approaching "I can't f***ing watch this guy" anymore territory for me.

Sorry, but I'm gonna force you to watch him more:

Arvidsson's moving his body divided by accomplishing things ratio is generational.

Moustache's No Move Clause refers to him attempting to go post to post.

Skinner probably gets shares in the team too, though not as many as Dusty Schwartz...

Also, not sure anyone remembers me but this is my first post back since June 2024...right after Game 3, and boy this place is a lot different. Back then I was in the minority arguing against a mob of Skinnertologists and was banned for flaming and trolling and whatever else they could throw at me. Now I see very few if any Skinner defenders. The team's Achilles heel has become obvious to almost everyone...a little late if you ask me, but better than never.

Mucho gracias to the mods for my early release...wait, that sounded wrong.

Thanks.

Yeah, the goaltending is a tricky one and I agree that Gibson stands out as the best quality option, but the cost and cap hit make it seem like an offseason move, if not a complete non-starter.

I honestly can't wrap my head around the cap in the instance Kane decides he's ready to enter the lineup. It makes things pretty murky should we add anyone to the roster.

I can't believe the pitchforks are out for Kane. An easy target for the relentless. Bro wants to play. It is not his fault management f***ed up the cap. The nerds in the cap and analytics department are to blame. Kane is not at fault.
Regardless of what's going on with the cap, it's better for the team if he waits until day 1 of the playoffs so they can address some needs on the roster.

If the team has asked Kane to wait a bit before getting back on the ice and he said no, then yes, it's his fault.

He enjoyed his summer and got surgery at the end of it. Spare me it’s not at all his fault. Would have been a non issue.

Keep this same energy when he comes back early. It’s going to be ugly.

It was stupid. I know people point out “the fan base was excited” but they miss out a huge part of that- the fan base assumed management would sign Holloway and Broberg. They didn’t which makes the signing of Skinner and Arvy look terrible. If you asked fans on June 30th, who would you rather have Holloway and Broberg or Skinner and Arvy- 10/10 would have chosen the former

He would have returned by now had he opted for surgery following the end of the playoffs. Wouldn't have that affected the "accrued cap space?"
