Waive Kapanen and Stetcher. With Arvidsson, Jeff Skinner and Podkolzin not getting the job done in the top 6 we need Kane or a plyer similar to him.

The issue is he has missed so much time he will probably take a few weeks to a month to actually play well most likely. Like look how long Brown took to bounce back. Kane might not.

We’re moving Arvidsson now too. Gazzola pretty much confirmed it. He’s most likely the one who asked for a change since he hasn’t been a fit

This team needs to start bringing in players who have proven they can succeed in the type of role we are going to give them here.

Jeff Skinner has averaged 16.5 minutes per game his entire career. Comes here and gets 4 minutes less per game

Arvidsson goes from 16.5 minutes his entire career to 14.5

Henrique goes from 17.5 his entire career to just over 14

In hindsight it’s no surprise they have struggled in reduced roles.

Yeah but maybe it’s not just the players. The organization and coaching staff aren’t putting these guys in good situations.

Theres too much over reliance on the big guns.

In an alternative timeline, wouldn’t surprise me to see Henrique put up 15G on Winnipeg or Columbus.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see JSkinner put up 15-20G with Toronto.

With Kane, I see his point. He’s a competitor. He wants to get out and play and get into game shape before the playoffs.

I see what you’re saying in the first two paragraphs but disagree with the bolded. Kane is a physical add to a p***ycat team. Guys heal faster all the time and original prognosis was after playoffs started. That changed obviously and Kane wants to get back playing. I don’t blame him.

Why would you think that. Our prospect pool is tiny, the majority of our players are 30 or almost. Our best defender is already starting to decline, McDavid and Draisaitl are nearing the end of their prime and this org doesn’t have anything close to a starting goalie anywhere near this org unless one plays against us.

I’m sorry Pickard isn’t good enough of a goalie to go far with, I like him but he is NOT a starter, neither is Skinner. It’s the biggest hole in this org and has been McDavids entire career.

Because the guys who drive this roster aren't the ones getting older. The cap going up significantly only stands to benefit the team with McDrai on it.

I don't think that the Oilers will have an issue convincing players to play here for some time. But I think it's important for the organization to not tie its hands in the same way that Jeff Jackson did this summer. The Oilers need cap flexibility, they need the ability to maneuver and they need to be creative in future years finding undervalued young players to fill roles.

I'm not using Pickard as a literal goalie that we should run with. He's an example of a John Doe average goalie. If you have a team built to steamroll competition at 5v5, Colorado proved that it makes no difference who the goalie is.

Elite goalies are drafted and developed way more often than they get traded for. Most teams have guys in that middle ground who vary from good to shit year-over-year.

The only way I see that working is if it’s a trade back to a team he played for, which leaves LA or Nashville. Maybe he’s the cap balancer in a Skinner for Saros deal? Trotz might be the only active GM worse than Bowman/Jackson so there is a slim possibility, but hope is all we have right now.

They don’t even have 2 reliable lines right now, they’re not going to become some deep forward group over one trade deadline. Goaltending is something the can be significantly upgraded right now.
