I agree and I have to give you props for managing to use the word proprioception,
I had to look it up.

I am pretty sure that chaotic comment was a recent evaluation of Campbells game.
It’s just part of who Campbell is as a goalie.
Ahh maybe I’m talking about the comments in December when he said he needs to stop the puck haha

unless the rules changed signing bonuses are different then reg pay. Whatever team has him when the bonus is to be signed. Pays the full freight of the bonus. That is why every year we have deals "waiting" till a bonus is paid
Okay. So with only 3.15 in actual salary owed for his final two years, the Caps would only be on the hook for 1.575m real dollars if they retained half his 4m cap hit. That could be feasible for them. They have a logjam at right D so I doubt they’d want Ceci, but Broberg might interest them. Ceci could be dealt for a forward rental with retention to free up enough cap for a Jensen/Dowd package. I think that’s a solid deadline.

Top targets for me are Konecny and Jenner. Really hope they don't trade the 1st for a rental. The D group is really good now, I have said mean things about Desharnais here but I am gladly eating crow and that is an excellent 3rd pairing especially with how Kulak always steps up in the playoffs.

another 5M+ player in the top 6 just destroys any chance of building quality depth throughout the lineup. The only type of player I want to see them bring in with a 5M+ cap hit is a bonifide high end top 4 RD.

We’ve already got a very good top 6 that doesn’t have trouble scoring with the exception of short stretches here and there which every team experiences, no matter how good. That last spot in the top 6 has to be a value spot, we need to be able to identify and give opportunities to guys either in our own system or in other teams that would fit well and have a high chance of outperforming cap hit. It seems like this coaching staff has a good handle on the roster and what works, and with Mcdavid and Draisaitl we should be able to pluck guys out of relative obscurity and make players out of them. Crosby, Malkin and the Pens have been doing it for years, we should be able to as well with guys like Mcdavid and Drai along with other weapons like RNH, Kane and Hyman. Keep picking up promising rocks and applying a little polish until you find a gem.

If the Oilers trade Ceci for Carrier, they can add Guentzel at just 50% from the Pens at the deadline without any other subtractions.

All of this talk of adding another RW after already adding Perry makes me think the Oilers are going to dump Brown so that his bonus isn't on our cap next season.
Seravelli has said that the wording of the contract decides whether or not a team can do this. He said that the way the Brown contract is worded means that the Oilers pay the bonus no matter what. I'm not sure how sure he is though, but it would be a weird thing for him to say without knowing for sure

He said it depends on bonus payment date.

Most Bonuses are paid at the end of the year. If they havent been paid out yet, they can be traded.

He thinks brown's was designed to either receive the bonus as soon as he hit the 10 games, or at least start having the payments come in. In that case, it can't be traded.

Just don't like a rental or don't like Guentzel?
Don't like pricey rentals. We're talking 1st+Broberg or Holloway+ salary for a few months of Guentzel most likely. I think it would be a huge mistake, unless they won a Cup of course then who cares what happens after. I'd just rather see Holland pour resources into a multi-year solution so the winning window can be extended.

How many more assists? Or do those not count anymore? I believe 13 of them are primary assists. He almost had as many points in the playoffs as Gagner did in the season last year. Not close to being the same caliber of player.

Drai only has 4 more ES goals than Foegs… must be barely a better player.
is Draisaitl better than Foegele at ES? ;)

Eberle has 14 ES assists total. (19 including PP)

You don't load up with an Eberle for playoffs.. we can sign him in the offseason if we love him that much. We need a Tarasenko, Giroux, Konecny, Jenner etc. to go through Vegas, COL etc.

‘24 and ‘25 1sts plus Bourgault for Konecny at 50%.

Ceci to anyone for the best pick we can get.

Broberg and ‘24 2nd for Jensen at 50% and Dowd. Add a bit and try to get Lindgren as a 1B also.

RNH Mcdavid Hyman
Kane Drai Konecny
Foegele McLeod Perry
Holloway Dowd Brown
Janmark
Ryan

Ekholm Bouchard
Nurse Jensen
Kulak Desharnais

Skinner
Lindgren

Curlock on Campbell..."never makes the same save the same way twice. It creates some chaos.
If it were a choice between Pickard and Campbell I would pick Pickard."

Interesting quote and IMO it nicely encapsulates Campbells game...his game is erratic.
You know who else game was erratic, Dominik Hasek…..

Campbell might not be the savior that Edmonton wants but he’s the savior that Edmonton needs.

I’ll show myself out.

Konecny yes, Guentzel absolutely no.
Guentzel would strictly be a rental and I agree it would be pricey but his playoff numbers are really good, let alone season numbers. A first, Broberg, and maybe another pick or another prospect might get it done; Holloway wouldn't be in discussion.

Dominik Hasek game was abso-f***ing-lutely not erratic.

He's basically the best goaltender who ever lived, he made saves in "creative" ways, but he was both athletically and positionally outstanding.

I think you guys fail to understand how good he truly was.

I watched a lot of Hasek growing up. Roy and Brodeur were technical goalies while Hasek was probably the most athletic goalie in NHL history. Technical goalies rarely need to make highlight reel saves on a nightly basis.

Obviously he was good technically and positionally but he’ll never be considered great in those aspects of his game. Roy’s technique was so good that almost every goalie copies his style to this day.

Hasek was an truly amazing technically goalie. He was just SO good and athletic, you can't teach what he does.

Hasek wasn't ridged to his "style" so it looked like he was erratic, when he was more creative enough to stop any puck.

A top 6 forward and a top 4 D like Carrier to replace Ceci = WWWWWWWWWWW

Is he even available? Haven't heard a peep about him yet. He still has term which makes sense for Ken Holland.
Exactly. Give up the assets for players with term. This could be our Eks upgrade but in the top 6

I don’t think Ceci for Carrier would be realistic, Preds are looking to move out a couple RD not add another in the process. You would have to move Ceci out in a separate deal then acquire Carrier.

Also I think the cost on Guentzel as a rental would be prohibitive, don’t see management ponying up the kind of assets it would take to land him, if he’s going that it’s for a player with term.

Finally unless Pittsburgh nosedives in the next month and is all but mathematically eliminated at the deadline, I don’t think there’s any way they deal him. They are still in striking distance and have games in hand on teams who are looking like they could fall off. Plus with the moves Dubas made this summer and Crosby/Malkin only with so many kicks at the can left, I find it hard to believe they’d sell off under any circumstance besides being essentially mathematically eliminated. In reality I think they want to extend Guentzel and they’ll keep him around and try to get it done in the summer.

Random Hasek note. I read he lived here in Edmonton for a year or two with billets. I could be completely wrong about the length, but surprised me. I've never followed his pre nhl career

That's fair and totally doable to me. That exchange is more what I mean.

Move Ceci to the Ducks and Then acquire Carrier would work great for the Oilers.

Guentzel isn't cost prohibitive, unless you're worried more about a couple picks down the road vs. winning now. If Guentzel cost the team Bourgault, 2024 1st + some small stuff, that's win for this team, even without re-signing him.
