Does anyone else get the feeling Yamamoto is being shopped with Koski for a Goalie upgrade ? I do
I can't wait til he falls apart and gets waived and one of those other two teams pick him up.Not sure if this was posted. At least we are not last! What is least most popular? Nice English.
Robin Lehner said today that #oilers is one of the 3 least most popular destinations for NHL players to want to play in. I think this is great fuel for the fire for the boys to go out and drop a big shitburger on the old boys club.
Optimistic view for me for this season is:
1. We have Chicago's #1 Defenceman from last year playing on our 2nd pairing.
2. We have a much more mobile defence corps with Ceci replacing Larsson and Bouchard coming up.
3. Smith and Keith while old are said to be fitness freaks and just great natural athletes in general. They look poised to cover the bet to play well at their age.
4. Perlini, Foegele, Benson, Marody, Mcleod, Turris, if any of these guy can excel in the top 9 we have alot more options in regards to line combos. I'm dreaming of a Benson, Mcleod, Marody 4th line that will rip it up (as unlikely as it is).
5. Perlini played well under Tip and he says he's matured and improved. The guy is big and fast and is a dark horse for us. If we can get 17 goal Perlini we're in good shape.
6. I don't see us losing Larsson as that catastrophic to be honest. It was probably a blessing in disguise as now we brought back the top scoring D in the league on a cheap 4.5 mill contract. I don't think his defensive prowess will be missed that much.
7. We have a proven winner and leader in Keith. Someone McDavid and Drai never had to lean-on and learn from unless you count Lucic.
8. With Hyman and Foegele we have greatly improved our left side. ALso, they are the types of players you need in the playoffs.
9. JP's progression is something to watch. If he can take a next step he should be dominant with COnnor. With no Chiasson and no Neal I hope he gets on the PP as the net front presence. Could be a breakout season for him.
10. Koekoek I believe was 10th OA, Ceci was a 15th OA pick, Perlini was a 12th OA pick. All 3 should be in the prime of their careers and I'm a big believer in having skilled and talented guys in your depth. Think of Ethan Moreau.
Hoping a trade to improve can happen but team looks good heading to the season.
Safer than some of the more recent topics discussedWhy are we talking about YTV and Super Dave?
So I have generally been pretty happy with Tippett but with his contract up at the end of the year how does everyone feel about an extension? Personally I would like to see a change barring some Cinderella season. Woodcraft has done an excellent job in the minors and we likely lose him if we resign Tippett. Part of me still wants to give Nelson a shot too as unlikely as that is. Who would you like to see behind the bench a year from now?
I suspect that's the plan, if the Oilers slump throughout this year, going to Woodcroft seems like an easy call. Not that he’s connected, but Escott was saying yesterday that he thinks Woodcroft might be getting a gig as an NHL coach next season (I’d guess with another team if not with us), particularly if the Condors have another great season.
They should hand him the reigns before someone else does. I can’t think of any “proven” coaches that will be available that I’d like to see coach the Oilers
besides JJ any former Oiler we let go of signed yet?.... Kahun, Ennis, Chaisson, Neal, Or was our depth really that bad last year lol

I know he wasn't loved on the PP, but he would wear out defensemen.I actually wouldnt have minded bringing back Chiasson a minimum. Dude randomly had a rocket on his stick every 5-6 games lol.

I think it's going to be 2 yrs about $2.15M per. What does Yamamoto have to come in at to be cap compliant with Klefbom going on LTIR?
Woodcroft is a good coach and I'd be happy if he took the reins. He's been fantastic with the team down there and importantly the younger players.I suspect that's the plan, if the Oilers slump throughout this year, going to Woodcroft seems like an easy call.
Edit: And unless I missed something, Tippett is in the last year of his contract, replacement is easy or even just promotion of Woodcroft out of sheer performance as the coach in the minors.

I think they can be compliant now, plus the numbers now include Turris who is likely bound for the minors. But can we sign him to a ~2 mil AAV and be cap compliant today? Or do we have to wait until the season starts and do a bunch of monkey business with the cap before we can sign him?
What a fool

Super Dave's brother is Albert Brooks.
