I don't think the bolded is actually a concern. When fully healthy, our top-12 has Kane, Hyman, Draisaitl, Puljujarvi, Foegele, Archibald, and Kassian as far as big and/or physical guys go. 5 of those guys play in the top-9. McDavid, RNH, McLeod, and Yamamoto are the only top-9 players who don't fit that list, so unless we're trading Yams or moving McLeod to the 4th line, there's not really any room for another big guy in the top-9.

Only Kane brings a physical intimidation element and willingness to get in opposing player's faces. Kassian is a liability on the ice, Archibald is useless with the covid rules, Hyman/Foegele/Pulj/Drai rarely initiate anything(Drai might be the biggest goon of the 4 of them).

When it comes to grit and drive, along with the willingness to initiate contact, the Oilers are pretty soft throughout the roster. Kane even pointed it out not long after he got here, he himself being a major addition to try and rectify the Oiler's tendency towards passive perimeter play.

100%.

Since that season ended and we decided against signing him, he's been putting up just over .5ppg at a 2.7m cap hit playing under 15 mins/game on average with all but 2 of his points coming 5v5.

AA wasn't a bad move until covid hit and f***ed with the cap.

Athanasiou had been playing at a 23 goal pace for the four seasons leading up to his trade to Edmonton, and has since been playing at a 23 goal pace in his year and a half since leaving Edmonton.

But yeah, he was the problem. Should have shown more in those 9 total games where he played with new linemates every night under a new system. Jesus.

Same gagner has scored 5 less goals than AA since the trade. I hate the on pace statement. AA has 9 goals to Gagners 7. Are those 2 goals worth 2 2bd round picks?

And for more fun AA has 39 pts since the trade. Gagner? 39

Defend that...

But he was PACE,,,,

Jarnkrok is a good add for them. Treliving loves to spend assets. That team is going to be a mess in 2 years.
Yeah but so what? They're a Cup threat this season. Say what you want about Treliving but he has the balls to make big moves to help his team win now and his team is poised to make a playoff run this season while the Oilers would be lucky to win a couple of playoff games.
Meanwhile, Holland is trying to run it back with Smithinen for the 3rd straight season. A broken Smith mind you

The teams that have to go all in this season are paying stupid prices for players that don’t warrant that price.
It's not really that stupid. It's a very late 2nd (just about a 3rd) and another 3rd for a very good 3rd liner, a player I always thought was underrated. Yeah he's a pending UFA but that price isn't really a big deal for a team in win now mode. A 1st+ for Chiarot is a stupid price.

That's your argument? That Gagner is the same level of player because he scored the same amount of points in 40 more games and didn't get COVID-19? Really?

I'm obviously talking about pace because it's the easiest way to explain a players production relative to his playing time. This is pretty basic stuff here.

The stats are the stats. Hate the deal all day, but statistically he was worth the price. The season being cancelled and him not getting a fair shake was completely out of his or Holland's control.

This is pretty interesting guys. I'd give it a watch if you want to know what it's like to be an agent and/or insider close to deadline day.

That being said, Walsh mentioned he'd be furious at an organization if they gave information to an insider to break the news prior to the organization actually telling the player they're dealt. Seems like he is heavily alluding to the Fleury situation where MAF said he found out on Twitter about the trade to the Hawks.

Methinks that if Vegas is indeed interested in Fleury, Walsh would tell them to f*** off.

The Chiarot one is terrible but I still think the Jarnkrok one was a little too much.

Gonna be sweet after the Flames get knocked out in the first round after mortgaging their future
I don’t know man. They have a heavy lineup built for the playoffs with a strong goalie that can carry them. Not to mention they just added two pretty good pieces.

I find it interesting the only player we are linked to is Kubalik. Which isn’t at all what we currently need.

I expect us to overpay for some below average 7th D that will barely play for us in the playoffs.

I would be happy if we could swing something like this:

1: Seattle
Barrie + Samorukov for Soucy + Geekie

2: Chicago
2022 1st + Archibald + Turris (minor cap relief) for Marc-Andre Fleury (50% retained)
The 1st is conditional on MAF winning 12 games in the playoffs, otherwise it's a 2nd.

Cap-wise it should work out. Put Smith on LTIR. When healthy:

Hyman - McDavid - Puljujarvi
Kane - Drai - Yamamoto
Foegele - RNH - Ryan
McLeod - Geekie - Kassian

Nurse - Bouchard
Keith - Ceci
Soucy - Broberg (or Lagesson - Soucy)

MAF
Koskinen

Hope that Kassian has a great playoffs so we can turn him into cap space in the offseason.

MAF isn’t coming here. Nor should we trade a 1st for him.
