Calgary gave up a second AND third for a middle 6 UFA winger? Yikes.
We gave up two seconds for a fourth liner in AA.

Jarnkrok is damn good. He would fit in great on our 2nd or 3rd line.

We desperately need to add a player like that. The price is good. Calgary gets better.

As long as he doesn’t pay the prices that Florida and Calgary did.

That’s worse than any trade Holland has made. Man Chiarot is massively overrated lol

Florida is trying to copy Tampa's success. Giving up 1st round picks for depth players (Goodrow and Savard in back to back seasons) with the hopes they'll mesh and put them over the edge.

1st round picks for rentals so rarely works out though. Big risk.

I will say though... those WAR charts from jfresh are all pure trash. Utterly useless.

Nice condescension. Doesn’t mean it should. Like that price for Chiarot is absolutely stupid and the price for Jarnkrok isn’t much better.

You wouldn’t pay basically 2 thirds for a player to help our middle 6 right now? Maybe give us a little better chance to be more than first round fodder?

Not utterly useless. Some nuance is lossed but good war means the player is good and playing where they should, bad war is a mix of sucks and playing over their head.

50% retention. The best team in the division just improved. To it move Holland.
1M retention, literally could've just waived Ritchie/Richardson to achieve basically the same result.

It makes sense for Calgary tho, this is their year to try. Gaudreau and Tkachuk are gonna be getting north of 10M on their next contracts, JG may not even stay in Calgary.

The thing with Chiarot is he’s had partners like Byfuglien and Weber who covered up how limited he was.

Once those guys are gone and you’re still playing him on your first pair, you’re going to be in trouble.

Maybe it works out better for him in Florida because they can play him on a lower pairing.

Still that price was gross.

Plus moving Monahan will likely cost a 1st/2nd in the offseason. Marleau was a 1st for one year of 6M, so maybe a 2nd because of Monahan being younger
Marleau was unique because he said he ONLY would play for San Jose I believe so the team he got traded to has to be them or has to agree to buy him out. Ghostisbehere was a 2nd and a 7th

It feels like Kubalik has been rumored to be traded to Edmonton forever now. I can't help but think that some in the Oilers organization are really keen on him after he's had a few good games against them

Might be a decent buy-low candidate considering his play has tanked in Chicago, but I don't see how it makes sense for the Oilers given their cap situation and need for more size and grit in the top 9 if they're making more moves to bolster the wings. Though, if Chicago wants to take Kassian off the Oiler's hands(money in, money out) with some assets to balance things out a bit, that would be nice.

I mean, Jarnkrok put up the same offense as Yamamoto on a terrible offensive team…which Yamamoto was force fed McDrai minutes.
