Looks like 'Shauger wasn't kidding when he said Kane was "the" deadline acquisition.

I wouldn’t bother with any forwards considering the big price the Flames paid for a third liner UFA, but they should be able to get a better D man than some random nobody 7D. Literally 0 point doing that, just stick with Russell if that’s the plan.

I wasn’t crazy about the Soucy rumour but that looks more attractive than a lot of the trades so far. If they can get it done for Barrie and a pick, then have at ‘er

I guess we're "All in" with shyte goaltending and questionable defence. What a job by Holland.

To be fair, the Avs should actually be going all in, and the Flames have to. Another first round exit for Shelbyville and they’ll have to rev up a rebuild. Treloser has to save his job as well

Friedman's pouring cold water over Oiler deadline shopping per 32 Thoughts. He's been actively downplaying Fleury/Edmonton for a long while now. Speculate this is direct from Fleury's shitbird agent or Fleury himself. But if the Oilers can't do better than ... uh ... err.. Dean Kukan (thank you Google search) then I don't know quite what to say a decade+ into rebuild(s).

I think something gets done. But not sure it will make a ripple.

Kukan is like a Smithson level D acquisition. I’m sure a certain Czech poster (haven’t seen him in a while, btw) will tell us he’s better than we think, but…

All due respect to Kane, who has been a great addition, he can’t be the only real addition made by the TDL. What a joke

Skinner has to be coming up after the AHL playoff roster deadline.
He BETTER be coming up... Smith playing a regular rotation of games can & will sewer any playoff hopes.

I'm actually pretty optimistic that the Oilers will make the playoffs but injuries and utilizing Smith (who is basically playing like an injured player at this point) will definitely erode any chances at a playoff spot... and even if they did squeak in... facing a Colorado team in the 1st round would be pretty brutal.

It's been foreseeable for over a month. He's not pouring cold water on anything.

The goaltending market has been garbage all season. The Oilers have needed an upgrade on LD since Nurse missed some time. And if the Oilers decide to make a splash at the deadline, the likeliest add is probably at forward, where the team needs the added depth next season.

If we were rumored in on any of the big name rentals, I'd be very concerned about the long-term outlook of this team.

This is silly season so it's hard to know what is happening or not. I do expect the Oilers to do something ... likely a depth d-man. Holland's a $5 million man ... surely there's a little creativity beyond throwing money at players. Surely... right?

With RNH, JP and Russell coming back soon... it becomes pretty easy to project what type of player the Oilers can afford at the TDL... let's just assume that with the 50 cents of cap space they'll have free.... they aren't going to get a needle mover on the roster.

Out of curiosity does anyone know what happened to Slater Koekkoek? Not that I want him up on the Oilers again... but he went down to the AHL and has only played 2 games down there... is he injured?

There's been ALOT of fan hope that Fleury would magically want to go to Edmonton. There's been media speculation the Oilers would make a play for Fleury. For a long time Friedman's actively downplayed it. Personally, this was a pretty clear reality crystal clear when I saw a pic of Fleury's young family like 3 kids under age 5. This was not going to be a player to waive to cross the border for a marginal team hoping it might compete for a Cup but running in place for much of this season.

Fleury's a pipe dream that Friedman's poured cold water on wherever asked or involuntary when not asked directly.

Finding a #1 goaltender in season is a fool's errand in a cap era. This has been a gaping need for the past two off seasons and this GM got nothing done. It's Koskinen, Smith, and a prayer their AHL goalie can tread water if the former two can't get it done ... again.

EDIT: I've been championing the need for a 2/3LD all season. This team has greatly missed the physical shutdown veteran d type since Larsson left and the d-type that is critical to success in tight playoff hockey.

He is bad at hockey so we are playing prospects with potential above him probably.

I read a while back that he was upset at his role and being sent down so he packed his shit and went home.

Vegas falling apart has opened up the playoff door for teams like the Canucks and Jets who are basically only a couple wins away from garpping a wild card spot.

I kept reading online about how the Canucks and Jets would be sellers at the deadline... but honestly with the goaltending they have... they'd be stupid to sell now as they have excellent shots at getting into the playoffs.
