Scrivens(2,300,000)

54,453,000
73,000,000

17,897,000 Million to play with

Petry/Fasth are gone, lets admit this one is a benefit and one is a **** us.

Mact has said that he wants someone with speed and good on the forecheck like Hendricks/Pouliot/Hall does anyone not find it interesting that they are all LWers?

Mact is targeting someone who is fast and good on the forecheck in FA, I guarantee it. Who?

Curtis Glencross or Sean Bergenheim.

Oilers want someone with a shot on the backend, so they sign Herlsey or wtv his name at a 900k contract

Stauffer said that Nikitin or Ference is gone, so it is probably going to be Nikitin. Lets get rid of that contract and hope for that Mact pulls off some of that Horcoff magic.

Oilers Sign Boychuk (6,000,000). I think we give him 6mil this season withe a NMC for 4 seasons.

Oilers Sign Andy Sekera(5,500,000) 1 year contract

My projected 2015-2016 Oilers

We shouldn't congratulate MacT buying out Nikitin too hard. It was his terrible deal that got us in this situation in the first place.

Worry being if they trade Ference (all though a good thing) might mean they still keep Nikitin (bad thing)

Only one problem, Boychuk and Sekera wouldn't take those deals. Boychuk will want more money, and probably 5 or 6 years. Sekera is only 28, so he's probably going to want a 7 year deal, and he'll probably want a little more money as well. They still fit under the cap in this situation, but that's a lot of capspace locked up long term

In the offseason, everything about a Craig Anderson for Martin Marincin swap is good for the Oilers.

I would be all for a deal like this as well, A goalie would go a long way too providing confidence for the team up front and cover for the young players mistakes so every one doesn't go in and break their confidence, I even add a '16 2nd or 3rd to get it done, Anderson is a proven starter and like that he has shown the ability to win games for a team behind a weak blue line, would also give time for Brossiot, O'Conner* to come along.

Indeed, it would be a huge step for the team to take. I'm not a huge Anderson fan, but of the obviously available goalies (UFAs and trades) Craig Anderson is clearly the best, what I would like to see is the Oilers also sign Raanta to compete with Scrivens for the back-up job. I like Ben, but it needs to be a constant state of improvement. If Raanta can still "develop" and be an upgrade on Scrivens, the Oilers are even further ahead.

Though, I makes me wonder if it would be Scrivens and Marincin for Anderson and something.

I'm fine with keeping Ference on the third pairing and stripping him of the captaincy. Even better would be getting rid of both Ference and Nikitin and replacing them with actual NHL players.

if the oilers ate 1/2 of Fernece's contract, he has value. $1.61 per year for two years is a reasonable price for a steady 3rd pairing guy. There are lots of teams looking for that kind of guy for this year's playoff push.

I don't think we would have to eat that much. I imagine a lot of teams would be interested in Ference at a 2.5 cap hit.

What do you think we get back for him? I wonder if he could command a second if we ate up to 50%. In this draft I'll take all the seconds I can get.

I don't know if that money realistically makes a huge difference for us the next 2 seasons.

Pros:
Marincin gets more NHL time under Nelson
A couple mill to utilize
A pick or possibly prospect (regardless of the past I think we are in a position to develop players now)

Cons:
Give up veteran depth at D
Losing Ferrence who's great in the community (though from his interviews I doubt he's a great motivator in the locker room)
Give up our only physical D (until Nurse arrives and he'll be more physical that anyone we've had in years)

I'd do it

I'd imagine we could probably get a 3rd or 4th, with nothing retained, if we took a small cap dump. Say Boston offers McQuaid or Kelly, and a mid pick. We're probably better off with that, than a 2nd, and having some of Ference's cap on the books.

Looking at the Pathers, I wonder if they would have interest, he's a vet, they are young back there and have some cap space to play with.

Ference to FLA for 3rd or 4th?

I dont think Nikitin is going anywhere. MacT is still sold on him as a GOOD 2nd pairing Dman when healthy.
Expects Nikitin-Fayne to be the 2nd pairing next season.

What a shame that we are going to be unable to keep Petry. Just another stain on this management team's resume.

I expect him, honestly, to be bought out and go back to Russia. Make a good wage with less pressure.

I'm actually surprised with people thinking including Edm 2016 1st is not enough for Vasilevskiy. If I'm the Oilers I would never trade the pick for him. That pick could be top 3 next year. Way too risky. We are very far from contention. If I'm projecting the worst teams next year it goes:

Ari
Tor
BUF
Edm

Even best case I can't see playoffs. So our pick is in the lottery (most likely) no matter what. The only reason I did include the pick for next year was that every time I propose a trade for Vas, there are a select few posters that come in here claiming he's the next coming. My fair value trade would be Petry + Pit 1st (include whatever to balance it out 2nd pick/Marincin). By the way the future Vezina winner is struggling big time against Col tonight....

It isn't realistic to expect Tampa to even consider moving Vasilevskiy. They have no reason to at all.

Now Kristers Gudlevskis might be a guy we could go after. Not sure if he's the answer, his numbers aren't as good as Vasilevskiy's, but that doesn't always mean much.
