Zavragin, August B-day will be 19 all season, 18g in the KHL so far.

So yeah, Zavragin is well ahead of where Shesterkin was at the same age. Facts is facts.

Doesn't mean he'll turn out as good, for one thing let's see if he can sustain this performance for a whole season.

Turns out the smallish steal was Gendron, who people said was nepotism.
Go figure.

In 18 KHL games, Zavragin now has a .930 Sv%.
Not sure anyone in KHL history has put up those kind of numbers before they turned 20.
If he sustains this performance he's in a very small group.

I'd be happy with mini-Caufield myself.

The nepotism charge simply assumed the only reason they took him was the family connection, and that he didn't have sufficient talent to justify a 7th rd pick (which is a pretty minimal standard).

No one called Pautov a “steal.” This is the 2nd time you’ve thrown this at me when I have made 0 posts about him.

Gendron is not a “steal” either because he has 5 goals on 15 shots to start an AHL season. Gendron is a “steal” because you’ve been trying to make him out to be one since he was drafted, for whatever oddball reason.

You’re also not exactly beating the wrap of overrating fringe prospects by calling Gendron a “steal.”

Doesn't mean he'll ever make the NHL, but at least he has an outside shot - in the 7th rd, that's about the best you can hope.

Anyone taken after the 3rd rd these days is a very long shot, small skilled guys rarely fall deep into the draft anymore. And late bloomers by definition are hard to predict on draft day.

With 30 goals in his pre-draft season, and above average speed at 5'9 176, it's surprising even with his flaws that no one took a flyer on him earlier.

last season wasn't quite ready for the AHL (turned 20 in December).

Yes, he has to improve his playmaking, but as Caufield shows, score goals and they'll find someone to feed you the puck (first 123 games: 53-26 79).
