Thank goodness he's at a safe distance for now. It would be a shame to have the organization start pigeonholing him and teaching him the "right" way to play.

He could be a point per game player in the AHL as a D-man and Chuck and his goons would think he's too light and does too many fancy things to ever be brought up. Not big and strong enough.

Did Chuck have an undersized D-man in Minnesota who they gave a chance to even though he was a UDFA?

Smart organizations: acquire the best young talent and let the talent sort itself across levels

Dumb organizations: well, we have a 20 year old, 2nd rounder in Allsvenskan (or NCAA, etc.), so avoid any style overlap, go on assumption, and look for fit

(I'm trying to figure out which one the Flyers are.)

Of course, you've already decided who the best young talent is, I'd prefer to get that opinion from other than certain people on this board who think that being undersized means you must be skilled (remember the people who whined that Martel never got a far shot and would blossom in TB?).

Say, did Caufield make the All Star team this year? Just wondering.

No one cares about Martel. Total non sequitur. Now, if you pass on top 2 round players or have "fit" control trading your franchise player -- fit for players not even close to the NHL -- then we have a problem. Fletcher admitted he prioritizes fit at the prospect level, so I'm not sure why this is any different.

I wrote this over the summer during his playoff run: "I’ll take the field that the most overall impactful player the Flyers passed on was not Caufield." I wanted Boldy, so you can miss me with that.

Just like you looking forward to seeing 26 year old career ECHLer Hodgson on the Flyers next year?

Actually I'm looking forward to seeing him this spring.

Verhaege bounced between the ECHL and AHL for two years, then had two great AHL seasons before anyone would give him a shot.

Hodgson had a bad knee injury in college that set him back, but size, speed, good hands and a good shot gives him a chance to be a late bloomer.
He looked better to me in their last televised game than most of the forwards drafted by Hextall.

You'll like him a lot less once the Flyers develop all initiative and creativity out of him in favor of safety.

Nothing wrong with a big "stay at home" RHD who can CYA for all those cute LHDs we have.
Gudas has managed to hang around the league for almost a decade.

Except those "cute" LHDs always end up being the ones bailing out their partners.

Why, it's like the myth of safety they pursue in their team-building philosophy is nonsense.

Safety? Have you seen the Flyers injury list at all levels? The Flyers are that crash test dummy from the Kit Kat commercials from a few years back with the sign in the background with zero days since last accident

Lol....love your comparison.

Verh. split time in the AHL and ECHL as a 20 and 21 year old. Then a full time AHLer at age 22 and 23.

Hodg. Was in tge OHL at age 20 then split time in AHL and ECHL at age 21, then spent age 22, 23, and 24 as ONLY an ECHLer. And now at age 25, back to being an AHL.

Not close to being the same. But nice try.

I'm talking about their preference for non-event hockey lacking any creativity or risk.

Didn't say they were the same. Obviously, people don't understand that comparing situations isn't the same as claiming players are equivalent.

Hodgson was a late bloomer in college, then blew out his knee, basically lost two seasons of development. If he stays healthy he might have moved up much faster. But the point is that it's not unheard of for a player to take a few years to get it together, rare, but it does happen. And Hodgson is a good enough athlete to be a NHL player. Only way to find out is to play him, which I expect they'll do at some point - though if the Phantoms are pushing for a playoff spot - they may choose to send down/keep there some players to make the playoffs so college players can get AHL playoff experience (rather than play for a NHL team that's just trying to finish out the season).

TB got Verhaege as a throw-in, then let him walk after a promising debut, they didn't believe he was for real.

Another case of i value a player no one values and i critizise a player who most value. Deady vs the world? Is this your thingy?
