Prospect Info: Round 1, Pick 5: Cutter Gauthier, LW, USNTDP -> Boston College

They going to try to get this guy to play on the Flyers next season?

Complaining about this pick is stupid. None of the players available in this draft 5 seem to have any better outlook than this kid. Who did you want? The other forward that projects to be a second liner at best or the defensemen that projects to be a second pair guy? I'd have preferred to trade back for that reason but honestly it seems he went right where everyone expected. It's almost like because he was linked to the Flyers pre-draft everyone is acting like it's a bad pick. I suspect if his name wasn't linked to the Flyers in the lead up to the draft people would feel differently than they do.

Not saying this is a great pick, but it isn't like they picked the guy that was off the board or left a clear cut stud on the board. It's what I'd expect in a thin draft class.

They really had me believing we had a shot at Wright. But don’t get so hung up on where the player was ranked versus where we picked him. Giroux would’ve gone Top 3 in his draft with hindsight, we got him in the 20s. We drafted the #1 player when we had the #2 pick in Patrick’s year…look how that turned out.

Give this kid a chance. FWIW, Wright reminds me of Patrick - super hyped for being pretty good at everything…didn’t translate well to the NHL when you need to be great at atleast something to become a star.

He was the 5th ranked player by consensus.

i know zero about any of the players but this appears to be a typical Flyer move aka... stupid
Yeah do you like this better? I can also copy and paste with no citations.

Maybe he’ll be great, maybe he won’t. We’ll find out in a few years
We know that the Flyers don't develop prospects, so we already know this is a disappointment. Heck if we drafted Connor Bedard next year, he'll disappoint because we are the Flyers and it is what we do best.

Until you hear him speak. Wright is going to be a very good player

McKeens, yes I know its McKeens, but anyway they had this to say about Gauthier when he "slid to the middle on a scoring line, and it may have been the best he that he looked this season. His length, ability to protect the puck through traffic, skating ability, defensive IQ, and physicality will all play extremely well as a center." They called him a natural center.
