really odd decision for him IMO. I understand wanting to keep his NCAA eligibility, but if you're trying to make the NHL, you try and take the most direct route there

He simply doesn't have enough games under his belt against anyone other than high school players. He needs to play, play immediately, and play alot. In that context this makes sense as he would have to sit out a year if he transferred and he's not ready for the AHL. Only other option is USHL or QMJHL. Either would be a better option, IMO. But I'm sure there's other things at play here.

Edit: Like keeping college eligibility if he figures out he's not cut out for pro hockey but still wants the college experience.

I'm aware of the difference and I pointed that out by saying he went to the WHL. It's still a comparable situation where there isn't a lot of precedent for something like this.
Not a lot of precedent but Cholowski left St Cloud and went to Prince George the same year as Bellows left for Portland . Some guys who get drafted in the first round think they are better than they really are and when it does not work out super duper it is everyone else's fault so they bolt .

Well, you're not as confused as he is.

Deskfront, facing WSW
I would much rather see a high Upside, higher risk prospect that a low upside low risk pick. Especially with a later (or a the 2nd) #1 in a particular draft. Sure you might get a bust, but if you want to win you need top end talent. Loading up on safe 3rd liners and 4-6 d-man does not a winning program make.

He has great speed, skills and a fireplug body.
Let's see how the next two years unfold before jumping to conclusions.
We knew he was a project the day he was drafted.

I have a feeling this guys gonna be a superstar
You my friend must be a wise contrarian investor. Not the follow-the-crowd type.

At this time i still believe those scouting reports, mock draft rankings and combine numbers (with players of same draft class not off the street younger dudes) are projecting NHL talent.

But Farabee deserves more love than Jay as of now.

I was a big fan of the pick. Of course I am knocked down a few pegs now but I haven't thrown him away yet.

Reb, I was at the game, sitting at that end. It was a real strange play.

I think the discarded stick on the ice in front of the bench crossed Lundeström up more than anything.

Simon Benoît was along the boards waiting for a pass in the Gulls' end, but the stick seemed to cause Lundeström to change the angle on the pass at the last second.

It split Benoît and Trevor Murphy and there wasn't much they could have done.

Really strange, but I still like Isac a lot.

Yeah I have no doubt that the loose stick is what caused the play.

might go down as the worst Flyers 1st in the last 25 years. Beyond that he won't be close to the bust Ryan Sittler was as a top-10 pick tho.

Maxime Ouellet - 22nd overall - 1999 - 12 NHL GP

It's way too early to condemn JOB like this in general.

I said 'might'. Not doing anything as a Freshman, leaving college to go play in Junior A because he wants to leave open the option of staying amateur to return to college as a 21 year old? Just seems really odd. He could very well never play an NHL game, which would then supplant Ouellet IMO. Which is why I said might.

Ouellet played 12 NHL games. Find me a player who played an NHL game with a worse draft+1 season than JOB.

You're right. He should just retire now because of an injury-plagued Draft +1.

This is toxic fandom at its worst right here. It cant just be that he had a dissapointing season, and we are all pulling for a much better Draft +2. We need to argue over whether it was the "WORST IN THE LAST 25 YEARS!!!!!"

Quite frankly, Flyers fans should be hoping for an even worse draft+2. It would kind of suck if he played just good enough to fool Fletcher into thinking he deserves a contract despite having no NHL potential. Then we'd lose out on a 2023 2nd and waste a contract spot for 3 years.
