I could see some (few) Ducks fans hoping the Kings win the division on Saturday. Then they could rest everyone Sunday. Having a chance at a semi meaningless division title might cause an injury. Playing Gibson on back to back nights with travel may be something to avoid. Of course the Ducks could win the division on Saturday and get to rest that way.

I would prefer Nashville as they don't go to the front like SJ or ANA. They always tended to sit back and counter punch, but it's even more apparent this year. They are a completely back-end driven team which usually doesn't work in the playoffs.

Most of their shots come from the back end, they don't have a lot of net presence which is how you beat Quick in the playoffs. They are absolutely top notch at clearing their own crease however, which clearly shows just how much that team falls back.

Teams that play that style tend to not have as much success against the Kings as teams that push for the front. Nashville's shot charts are quite similar to St. Louis.

its worked pretty freaking well against LA this year

Yea the games were mostly tight, but the Kings did take 2 out of 3 despite playing two on the road. And 4 of Nashville's 9 goals were on the PP with one EN. We did fare better against Nashville than either SJ or ANA this year.

I know the Kings will never admit it publicly but you gotta know they have a preference. And I think that preference is SAN JOSE. Basing this on a gut feeling basis

Nashville, as I don't think they have the scoring depth the Sharks do, and even their top forwards don't scare me all that much. A lot of their key players are getting up there in years too. Didn't realize Ribeiro is 36 and Rinne is 33.

Also the potential shenanigans quotient in a Sharks-Ducks best of seven is off the charts. Perry-Couture jousting after every whistle. Kesler and Thornton trading flops. Bieksa and Hertl telling each other horror stories about the bogeyman Dustin Brown. Potential for a Jesus-Jones goalie fight?

They could play this in the background

Another effect of the win last night was to give the Kings a shot at passing Chicago in points. Not likely as Chicago has Columbus, but at least its on the road for them. You never know who you are going to face if you make it to the WCF.

gonna be honest here, i really don't think home-ice actually means a damn thing to the Kings outside of putting on airs to make it seem like they actually care about the regular season and seeding. They won both cups as bottom seeds and had incredible road success in both runs, i just don't see it being a huge factor for them at the end of the day.

kinda agree here considering face off rules have changed so that is no longer an advantage to playing at home. Final change still is though, and with our lack of depth on D compared to previous runs that could make home ice more important.

Before the game yesterday I wanted to play San Jose mainly because the travel is easier and I like a matchup against inexperienced playoff goalies. When it came down to us having to lose to the Ducks I changed my thought to "Bring on the Preds!" It's going to be tough either way.

Actually if we do end up playing Chicago at some point in the playoffs, home ice would be huge. Unlike past years, Chicago is not as deep and is relying heavily on the Kane-Panarin line. If we have home ice, we can match that line and shut it down with Kopitar's line. I had no idea how close we were to passing them in points until this morning. Hope Columbus wins it tomorrow.

Any idea what days the games might be on? Got to start asking for time off from work

Playoffs start Wed April 13, but the Lakers play that night at Staples Center, so I would count on us starting Thursday April 14. Not sure about other dates, but it's usually every other day.

Ducks cannot win the division on Saturday. If the Ducks win and Kings lose in regulation the Ducks would technically pass the Kings on Saturday. But that's because they would hold the first tie breaker which is least number of games played. The second tie breaker (really the first since standings only matter after the season is over) is ROW. The Kings have 46 ROW to Ducks 41. No way Ducks can catch Kings. So if the Ducks win Saturday and Kings lose in regulation the Ducks still need to get a point on Sunday to win the division.

Hope that makes sense. Here's scenario.

Kings win - Kings get division
Kings lose in OT/SO - Ducks need to win both games on weekend to pass Kings.
Kings lose in regulation - Ducks need to get 3 points on weekend to pass Kings.

Bored with the Sharks. Then again it's the Sharks. Would be pretty damn funny to knock them out yet again. Then again if they somehow managed to beat us we'd never hear the end of it. Like Lucas catching the football.

Like others have said I would love to see the ducks and Sharks beat the hell out of each other. Would be fun watching one of them get booted first round and blow the team up, and see the other limp to round 2.
