just heard on Leafs Lunch that this current core group is 0-7 when given the opportunity to close out a series or extend a series lead. So.....

dumb-and-dumber-lloyd.gif

Leafs lunch is out to lunch this number doesn't make sense.

It sounds like this core failed to win when a team elimination was on the line: failure to extend when leafs when they are facing elimination or failure to win a series when the opponent was facing elimination. I'm assuming they are including 2013 which only had Rielly in it.

Lets see
Leafs failed to win game 7 against the Bruins 2013 to win the series
Leafs failed to win game 6 against the Capitals 2017 to extend the series
Leafs failed to win game 7 against the Bruins 2018 to win the series
Leafs failed to win game 6 against the Bruins 2019 to win the series
Leafs failed to win game 7 against the Bruins 2019 to win the series
Leafs failed to win game 5 against the Bluejackets 2020 to win the series

That's 6 games not 7.

But this is willful oversite of
The leafs won game 5 against the Bruins 2013 to extend the series
The leafs won game 6 against the Bruins 2013 to extend the series
The leafs won game 5 against the Bruins 2018 to extend the series
The leafs won game 6 against the Bruins 2018 to extend the series
The leafs won game 4 against the BlueJackets 2020 to extend the series

That's 5 games.

Overall not great, we need to win this round. But the stat is 5 wins and 6 losses when it comes to extending or winning a series.

Extending leads, not the series. Pretty sure we were up 2-1 against Washington for the 7th opportunity btw

2017:
Leafs had 2-1 lead and lost game 4 when given the opportunity to extend lead to 3-1

1 game

2018:
Lost in game 7. Opportunity to close out series

1 game

2019:
-won game 1, lost game 2
-won game 3, lost game 4
-won game 5, lost game 6
-lost game 7

4 games

2020;
-lost game 5

1 game

the math is right unfortunately. When faced witht he oppourtunity to go up 2 in a series, or when faced with an opportunity to close the series they are 0-7

TONIGHT THIS CHANGES :thumbu:

I should really take a knap after work cos I feel like this one is gonna go to OT but I try to get as much studying done after work and start the game on stream delay at around 8:30 so I can skip ads/intermission.

Although if they start Andersen then might as well give up now cos that ain't going to OT. Another issue with winning when you play bad at the end of the game is the coach will just come back with the same lineup so we'll still have both Thornton and Nash.

2019 still stings, damn

Too much of Game 3 was spent playing on Montreal's terms: low scoring, low event. The game changes so much when we get a lead and Montreal can't just sit back and wait for mistakes leading to rush chances. Even more so when it's a multi-goal lead.

We need to jump out to a quick lead and put the game on our terms.

I also suspect Montreal is really going to push the rough stuff in this one to try to generate some life and take our skill guys off their game. Will have to be ready for that.

2019 playoffs is the perfect illustration of the immaturity of our team at that point in time. We felt way too good about ourselves when we got the lead. I think they just expected Boston to feel as bad as they would have felt being down a game. But they really made that series much harder on themselves than they needed to. Should have been an easy Leafs win. But its all a part of this core's story. Hopefully they've learned from their mistakes. They were never given the opportunity to play ahead in a series last year. So tonight will be the first time in 2 years they have to defend a series lead. I'm expecting growth, because they have grown in every other aspect. I have a lot of faith that this group will come out with e solid effort and be extremely focused. Hopefully that solid effort translates into a win

I won't watch tonights game. :( Important meeting tomorrow, christening of my goddaughter on Sunday... I can't sleep less than 6 hours 3 nights out of 4. However I'll watch the clinching game on Thursday.

(hopefully I'll wake up at 3ish :D)
Have fun my fellow Leafs fans!

GO LEAFS GO!!

Evans is the Habs 2nd best forward?!

PowerlessForcefulBrownbutterfly-size_restricted.gif

Habs have it in tough because the team sucks, no superstar forwards, no scoring, aging & rapidly declining vets, undisciplined players, and a horrific dumb-as-a-rock stubborn coach and stupid GM. In fact, they did NOT belong in the playoffs - neither last year, nor this year. It's pathetic how this pandemic got the Habs in the playoffs both years.

Also, Tavares is actually a HUGE loss for the Leafs.
But Evans? :biglaugh:

Campbell was quoted in saying that he would be up for playing b2b. IMO the only way that they would start Andersen would be if jack is dealing with some kind of injury.

99.9% sure that Campbell gets the start
