On one hand, yeah, Nashville totally owned us in the last two games. We looked bad, Petr looked very "vincible," their goalies looked great, and yes George Soros is supernova. I have no idea why everyone describes their goalie as supernova and not "hot" or "Beck Warm" or "incendiary" or another word. It's always supernova.

At the same time, we throttled Nashville 6 times in a row, when the games actually mattered. We have a proven playoff goalie and a Calder candidate goalie (and Reims looked great when he played last year in the playoffs). We have a better offense than Nashville and a better defense, and much better special teams. Actually none of those are close. We are significantly better in these areas than Nashville over the course of the year. And Nashville had an exceptional OT/SO record, and ours was pedestrian, which doesn't matter for the playoffs. The list of things to be tip your cap to is way longer and more important than the list of things to worry about.

Ultimately, yes, Nashville could win. If we don't bring our A game, they could sweep us, even. Playoffs are a different beast, and we still have a lot of core players with less playoff experience than Nashville. Our young players play much more of a role on our team than Nashville's. So we don't know exactly what to expect. However, IF we are going to play in 4 rounds this playoff (huge if, obviously), than Nashville is the team I'm least scared of. Like, obviously Nashville is a good team, but if we want the cup, we'll play this good team, then we'll play 3 better teams. So I ain't gonna worry about a main boarder with their take that George Soros is a Type 1A supernova which accreted mass from a nearby red giant, but only in the second half of the year. I don't care. People will post this in any thread. If we were playing Detroit in round 1, people would do the same thing. I also like our coach Rod more than I like any other coach in the league, including Hynes, but also including Quenneville and whoever else. Rod will have the boys ready and I ain't worried.

I agree.

This was too long and I didn't read it.

Poile quoted as saying Series will start on Monday the 17th. If so, that gets 9 days off for Slavin, gives Martinook some more practice time and hopefully gets McGinn and Paquette back as well.
9 days off for many of the top players will be good for healing. I think Rod's practices are hard enough that the rust shouldnt be there.

Think it was yesterday when Rod said that they had slacked off after clinching the division and that he was aiming to get the pace back up at practice.

So yeah, good bet that those practices will be grueling. But at least they're now allowed to use the Sauna afterwards!

The President's Trophy shows who is the most consistently good team over the course of an entire season. Its one hell of an accomplishment to achieve and it really annoys me that so many are quick to write it off because its not the Cup. You're talking about a team consistently bringing their A game over 82 games (this year 56) in order to achieve it. Its absolutely an award worth going for and should be better celebrated than it is.

Well hate to tell you but unless your team wins it most fans don't remember or care who wins the Presidents trophy. I get that its hard to win but really even hard core fans really don't care about it.

Way to completely and totally miss the entire point of that post. The fact that even hard core fans write it off is itself the problem.

News for you. The sport, all sports are played for the fans. If the fans don't care then its not important. Doesn't matter how good a product is if it doesn't sell its useless.

I got the point and like most fans just don't care about it, the teams don't use it as bragging rights, neither do fans. As hard as it is to get, no one cares. Like hitting thr cycle in baseball its cool but after a few days no one remembers it happened

The post was a complaint about the fact that fans don't care. Saying "well, the fans don't care" does not rebut the point in the slightest. The original argument boils down to "fans don't care but they should". In context, you are attempting to argue that fans shouldn't care because fans don't care- which is not even close to a valid argument.

Everybody involved knows that fans don't care. That's the basis of the discussion.

Being the most dominant team in the league over the course of an entire regular season is a much, much more meaningful thing than hitting for the cycle. It's like comparing hitting for the cycle to winning a batting title.
