Doesn't that apply to other GM's as well? For a change, maybe we got lucky? Pretty sure we passed up on many good players and even HOF's. Haven't we?
Then again, can't even say we haven't been lucky in that dept. We got a #1 and a #2, not even mentioning guys like Vesey, Hayes and Fox that wanted to play for us.
We've been fortunate, nobody should ever think otherwise.

They were picking for need. Maybe not all of them as there were good players taken along the way but you see it happen every year that when a defenseman or 2 get taken, you see a string for 2,3 or more go right after.

That plus what ever the hell the Wild were doing. Stramel was such a bad pick.

I'm always of the opinion that if a player proves they should get a look then you give it to them and not go by preconceived "well it's tough for a rookie to break in etc etc"

I don't really think they'll be signing Gabe to have him available for the playoffs but if they did and they gave him a taste and he looked good and/or better option than what they had, then I'd let it cook a bit

Those Torts teams were so starved for offense. We all just picture Kreider speeding down the wing faster than all the plugs at the time and ripping a slapper past Holtby. The image is ingrained in our heads.

Which was, incidentally, the only thing he could do at an NHL level at that stage in his career.

The question is whether GP offers something unique early that could help us, and unless we suffer some major season ending injuries, I'd rather we not burn the year.

BC's scheudle to start the year has been pretty insane.

AIC sucks but MSU, WMU, St Cloud and Maine.

Those teams are ranked 4th, 14th, 12th and 5th nationally.

How is Perreault's skating coming along as I recall reading here that it was not that great a season or so ago ? Who would he compare with on the current club ?

He's not the fastest skater, which is a concern. He's also not overly physical. It'll be tough for him to crack the line-up to be honest. I wouldn't be surprised if he spends a year in Hartford at least.

I don't think his situation is at all comparable to Kreider because Kreider was older, bigger, faster and joined a team that had a hole to fill in their top-9.

I don't think there is any way outside of a rash of injuries towards the end of the season that would even make Perreault a possibility to play with the Rangers this year. Size/speed/whatever there just isn't an open top 9 spot for him. If the FO isn't serious about addressing the Lindgren sized problem on defense it isn't worth burning a year even if he could help.

He's got a wide open lane to make the team out of camp next year though, especially if the coaching staff remains the same (even if he doesn't deserve it.) I'd be shocked if he spends a second more than what ever he might play on an ATO in Hartford. If this team doesn't bring it home this year, the roster is going to be very, very different next year and even with his size and skating concerns, I actually think he's our most NHL ready top 9 prospect (yes, even ahead of guys like Othmann and Berard.)

2 and to the show is the exact route that Stepan took to make it to the NHL and I think if we're looking for past to present comparable thats the one we should point to, not Kreider as their profiles as prospects are way more similar.

Nice idea with the no look pass, but breaking it down frame by frame, the pass was just ok, as intended it was headed straight for the opposition D at their blue line, but luckily it hit the defending forward’s skate and bounced perfectly to Hagens leading to the 2 on 1.

it didn't hit anything, it went through the defender's skates. Just watched it back 5 times at .25x speed to make sure I wasn't just seeing shit lol.

Also peep the stick blade, definitely a hook pass attempt. Flawless execution.

This is also the kind of shit that makes me bullish on his ability to be able to step into the NHL because this is the type of scenario that happens dozens of times a game. Most guys will just try to dump the puck in and if he's a Ranger forward, probably chip the puck right into the defender.

The sweet hands on a partial breakaway are nice, but I'll take positive and relevantly repeatable skills over them every day. Luckily he has both.

The intent here is clear based on the angle of his stick. He's trying to get the puck to Hagens.

The puck clearly goes through the defender's skates. I don't think it hit anything, but if it did, it didn't change the trajectory to any significant degree.

Gabe turned back even as he chipped the puck, ensuring that if the puck didn't get through, he'd be in good position to defend.

Maybe I'm reading more into it than is actually there, but given this kid's smarts, I'm inclined to believe those were his intentions.

Do you honestly think it's realistic that the Rangers approach Perreault and ask him to sign with the possibility that he spends at least a year in the AHL? And if so, do you think Perreault would agree to that?

This will be a kid who is going to be as decorated of an amateur hockey player as there is and will have seen all of his teammates/contemporaries go straight to the NHL without spending a second on the farm.

It might make sense on paper, but be mindful that in reality these kids possess and exercise sigfnificantly more leverage now than they used to.
