I really liked Trevor Connelly. In the 3rd period and OT, Connelly was holding onto to the puck and making plays. He is listed a 6-1 and 165. He looks bigger than than 165 pounds. Skating. He has off-ice issues but first round pick talent. Vegas took him in the 1st round pick last year.

Fortescue looks bigger than 181 lbs. So........Drew didn't seem to have any issue handling the bigger players on other teams. He seemed more effective in that than both Ralph and Kleber who are much bigger players.

Same reason why he fell to the 2nd.

When you’re 1ft 2 you need to prove you can play.

When you’re 6’3, you need to prove you can’t.
Miller can't and I hope that was a joke on draft day that Emery really looked up to Miller. Hopefully Emery won't be a defensive liability on defense once he turns pro.

His pass to Eiserman for the GWG against Czechia was electric as well. Skating full speed down the boards, cross body, tape to tape he found Eiserman trailing. Nice shot too but I loved the pass more.

It was the only good play he made all tournament.

Was one of the bigger letdowns for me. Eiserman played like an unhinged moron but at least he sandwiched goals in between those moments of unfathomable stupidity. Connelly was… invisible.

Gabe had the same stat line as last years when they won the gold, 3 goals, 7 assists for 10 points. Good for a tie in 2nd among points in the tournament.

I rather not see him until Panarin is gone. Not interested in yet another pick getting no pp time.
Who am I kidding even w/out Panarin here they won't give him meaningful pp time.
Or, crazy idea, he could put up more than 14 powerplay points in 5 seasons.

I thought he elevated his game the longer the tournament went on. A ton of the goals USA scored started with smart decisions, steals and great quick passing by Gabe. I thought he was kind of ignored by EJ and Granato throughout the games, but thats the kind of sneaky effective player he is.

Man, Leonard is a force. The Rangers really could use a young power forward like him. Pissed that the Caps are getting him and we will have to deal with him in the division. Gabe is a peripheral player, extremely intelligent and anticipates everything in the offensive zone so well. You could see how fast his processing of the game is.

A lot of reaching in his game defensively. He'll improve, but I dont see him becoming a super strong two way guy. Saw a few checks but that's not his game at all. Which to me, is a problem considering its the same stuff we've seen from the core players on this team.

I dont want to shit on him after winning Gold, but while Perreault will be very good at the NHL level, he'll be the same skilled winger that helps gets you to the dance - but he will need to be surrounded by a stronger, physical compliment of players if they want to win it all. Its just about where this Rangers team is now and what weve seen from the current core of forwards. They need straight line players and not softer skilled guys.

I think the Rangers have that coming. Perreault, Lafreniere and Fox are going to run the offense in the next core.

I mean, people prop up Mikko Rantanen as a guy you win with (not saying I disagree) and that dude needs a map and directions to find his own zone. Draisaitl is the best playoff performer arguably of all-time not named Wayne, and I'm better defensively than he is.

Meanwhile, Mitch Marner is a notch below a Selke-level defender and is the poster child for not being able to win with a guy.

I understand where you're coming from as far as the problems with our core players, but I don't think the problem is actually defense. Most star forwards in the NHL are horrendous at it.

Caps are actually a well run org that knows how to draft and have a coherent vision. Even as Ovechkin and Carlson age out they will still be good and in a much healthier position than us in the coming years.
