McTavish is also a player who was scratched a game or 2 VS Vegas due to his play. His drop in overall play last year plus his cap hit along with Schneider being a young, steady likely #4 levels things a bit. I do think the Rangers would add but nothing crazy.
What does Verbeek ask for vs. what is Drury willing to give up?

If I'm Verbeek I ask for the #26 or the second rounder. If I'm Drury or me I include one of the four third rounders or Edstrom. Nothing more.

I guess I don't understand the push back on the Raddysh deal. Yes, they had to overpay in years, but they gave up practically no assets to bring him in. Is it better to sign Raddysh like this or to trade for someone like Miller/Dobson/Byram and then pay them?

Sure but Sykora still has AHL options
Chelmar too
Teams depth is rough
I think it’s time we give both those guys a fair shot at the NHL level personally.

Never been totally sold on the idea that every kid should be default have to beat out a veteran in camp.

He’s 30 years old, has had one good season and is now signed until he’s 38 making first pairing money.

If it works out for the Leafs, god bless them. But I’m glad my team isn’t the one jumping on that grenade

He doesn't have 1 good season. He has had 3.
He had more points last season than he did the rest of his career combined, you understand what I’m saying lol

Also the team was never going to be in on him. RD is the organizations most stocked area, and the chances are high they take another RD at 5 in a few weeks. It would make no sense to add him

Yes that's true but my point has been, and really continues to be, that his cap hit isn't that bad. Any number in the $8's is basically 2nd pairing money, especially as we move further in to that deal and he's more than just a point producer. If he reverts to 35-40 points a season that's completely fine at his cap hit

Are the Leafs about to give a massive contract to a clearly declining Mathews?

In that lens, they think their window is open NOW even tho they missed last season.

They feel like even IF Raddysh's contract doesn't age well, they'll be in their new rebuild by then with a more seasoned McKenna.

Just guessing. *shrug*

"Is he solely a product of Tampa?" is the question that needs to be answered and the Leafs are going to show us.

The feeling is a lot of people think the answer is yes. Some guys are late bloomers, and then you have other players (Kevin Stevens, Mikael Rendberg, and lesser ones like Sean Hill) who are complimentary pieces playing with Hall of Famers or the right system.

Sullivan loves Chmelar. He's not going to Brendan Smith his summer.

I'd rather sign a middle six 35-40 point winger who has the potential to hit 55-60 with the right linemattes instead of a Malenstyn when the Rangers have 4-5 guys who can do what he does.

I agree with this although Malenstyn would be a good pickup for depth. I think he's is a good enough skater that he'd improve the team speed and forechecking ability. Malenstyn should repalce Edstrom and Rempe as a depth 4th line PK piece and not take a spot from Sykora, Chmelar, someone who is more deserving etc .

They have money for both
They do, but I'm skeptical that McMann would sign here. He's 30 and likely about to get his retirement contract. I'd guess that he's more likely to sign with a contender, and as an Alberta kid, the Oilers seem like the perfect fit for him. McDavid needs a goal-scoring winger, and they're going to clear Nurse's deal soon. Plus, the Rangers are already pretty crowded on the wings. Are they really going to invest a bunch of money at arguably their deepest position?

Malenstyn would likely be the best bet as someone who'd be a good culture setter and bottom-6 staple. Elite skater too.

The risk isn’t him reverting back to that. The risk is him deteriorating beyond it, and potentially sooner rather than later.

How many defensemen can you name that were AHL players until 27, had a breakout season at 30, and then went on to stay an effective top-4 defensemen into their mid and late 30s? There are better examples of this kind of thing among forwards, but for a D?

It could happen with Raddysh, but if it does it’d be a pretty unique story. Gambling on a unique story like that coming to fruition isn’t something a lot of people, including myself, are willing to do.
