Clifton bumped to the 3rd pair.

I still worry about that Cozens line getting WORKED defensively. Peterka looked like a man on a mission from the few preseason games I saw, so hopefully that eases the blow.

Joki with Power is worrisome. I'm not thrilled with that pairing. I was hoping we'd be done with that experiment by now. I know it's the opening night roster and things will change over the course of the season, but I'm very disappointed to see that pairing together again.

I'm worried about it to.......but Joker is one of the only Dmen I didn't have a major consistent issue with in preseason. He looked back to his form starting last year, which was pretty solid. It wasn't until his injuries manifested that he really struggled.

I have a feeling we will see Ryan Johnson after about 30 games.E Johnson will be a rotational guy ,Bryson to Rochester.R Johnson is ready, moves pucks, blocks shots very sound positionally and flies!.Too me the most important signing this summer.

RyJo is that good but no reason to have him in the Buffalo press box when he can be playing a lot of minutes every night for Rochester. Bryson can sit in the box as well as anyone and be that good team guy and if we have a couple of injuries we can still call up Johnson and have him play actual games while Bryson still sits - as long as the injured defenseman goes on IR for a while.

long injuries he gets called up. If a player is nicked/ ill one day then bryson plays.
It all depends on how the two are playing.

You could be right but my point is once he is up he will stay he is that good
I doubt it when guys get healthy. They will want him playing regularly in Rochester and I doubt you see them scratching a non-Bryson vet unless Johnson just plays out of his mind.

Peterka Cozens Olofsson gives VO the best chance to be successful. I like it.

Benson gets a big body on the other wing and Mitts is as experienced a center as we have. I like it.

1st lines and 4th lines are the same as last season. I like it

Sammy and Dahlin together. I like it.

Joker gets one final chance to play top 4 minutes. I like it.

EJ on the left side as he is our most experienced D by a long shot. Clifton not being gifted a top 4 spot as he didn't earn it in camp. I like it

It's the perfect lineup with what we got. It will be probably be different in Game 3. Let's get it boys!

I feel like whatever line you put VO on its going to get worked but I do agree with you. Hopefully they can keep the boat a float until Quinn gets back.

Power-Joki aren't ideal for me either but It didn't bother me nearly as much as the Dahlin-Clifton pairing did. I think they still need to make a move for a top 4 d partner with Power

I wonder how much of the Power-Joki pairing is "Alright. We'll concede that you were hurt and not yourself the 2nd half of last year. Prove it or we're replacing you"

It's obvious that KA and company want as much home-grown talent as possible, so it makes some sense that they're giving their guys every last chance......but I gotta think that Joker is on his last one.

If these practice lines are what Granato starts out with that seems to be an indicator that rolling lines is gone in favor of a more match-up oriented plan. Top line against lesser lines when possible, Mitts line is the best defensive line they could form to play against offensive lines, Cozens line for hopeful mismatches and Ozone starts, Krebs line to tilt the ice from Dzone to Ozone like usual. That seems to prioritize situational hockey and winning games, a lot more than how they started last season. Hopefully it works and they stay together for a while.

its the same lines as last year with quinn and VO swapped

What's wrong with Clifton? Even Clague and Bryson looked good next to Dahlin in short bursts.

New coaches, new system, new teammates - Sometimes it takes a while.

That being said he's always been a bottom 4 role player, so any expectations for more should have been tempered. I say this as someone that is a big fan of what he brings to the table.

So far he’s probably adapting, but I still prefer Samuelsson - Dahlin pair and wouldn’t want to change anything in the first pair.

2nd Half, Joker had the puck shot into his face like 2 weeks in to the season.

I think this may be a philosophy also, where the coaches will keep giving players chances until they eventually give up on them, the problem I have is that they keep putting the same players in the same ill-fitting roles.

They are trying to mold the square player to become a round hole fit, instead of finding the square hole to plug them into.

The ability to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of players seems to be somewhat lacking from this staff.

Home opener, Donnie best have this team fired up and exploding out of the gate.
I hope it's not this

The Sabres went on to win a thrilling 6-3 game, but Jokiharju suffered a facial fracture and a concussion. He didn’t play again for another month, and when he did return he had a tinted visor to deal with the light sensitivity.

“It f—ed up your head a little bit, too,” Jokiharju said. “It wasn’t fun at all for sure. You have to battle through it but also know when you’re right and ready to come in so you don’t rush it. That’s the key.”

Jokiharju’s season didn’t get much easier from there. A few weeks after he returned from the concussion and facial fracture, Jokihjarju blocked a shot against the Penguins and landed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury. He missed another month. By mid-January, he’d played in only 16 games.

“He was playing so well for that first week and I felt terrible about hitting him even though it tipped off a stick,” Okposo said. “You have an injury like that and it takes a long time to come back and when you get back you’re unsure of yourself. You’re thinking about getting hit in the face again and you’re just uncomfortable. He missed that point in the season where you settle into the year after the first two weeks, everyone calms down and finds their game. That’s what he missed. I don’t think he ever really got settled in.”
