But right now, so many teams are (stupidly) trying to get into the playoffs that trading our prospects for their NHL-established guys isn't going to be a thing yet. Gotta wait until some of these teams come to their senses.
Importantly, the Sabres also must *not* come to their senses o_O

This isn't EA sports. We can't just make Saros magically available. Trotz doesn't HAVE to trade Saros to us just because we think we're offering a "good enough" package.

Goalies who can regularly get Vezina votes just don't move often. At all.

And as far as the "others" go........the only team that's really out of it right now is the Sharks, and they really only have one possibly available piece that even interests me personally (Sturm).

I hate to break this to you but we are going to be out of playoff contention by New Years Day barring some miraculous turnaround.

Benson and Greenway will probably swap as the game goes along.
if you swap Greenway out of that line you can also just staple it to the bench but its certainly not a good idea to get a rookie on a line with VO

I just cannot understand not calling up Kulich and sending Rousek down. Playing Krebs and Jost as your 3C/4C is asking to get beat in any game. Cozens/Mitts is a poor enough top 6 center group. Why not bring up Kulich for 3C and see if he can help?

Give Krebs a night off, he's clearly dealing with a family issue. It'd give him time to clear his head and hopefully get back to playing better.
mitts is just fine as a 1 or a 2; Cozens is the only guy you should be concerned with no idea why you lump the 2 together

So they checked in over the summer and asked to be updated on his progress. At least that’s how I interpret this.

Combine this with his agents recent comments and I don’t see how people are coming to the conclusion he was close to signing over the weekend.
are you refering to the X crowd which is making a living with providing "information"

The goaltending has actually exceeded expectations and is the only reason the team is not firmly rooted at the bottom of the conference. That's even more amazing when you realize every single thing people said about counting on Levi being an insane and foolish strategy ended up being 100% correct.

Sturm interests you more than Hurtl? 🤨

Also rumors of Nashville moving on from Saros go back to before last off season. Nashville firmly believes in Askarov.

Wasn't he also out for a game or two with a foot injury?

At the bare minimum level, can they waive Olofsson and bring up Kulich to play in his spot? Aside from when he's scoring meaningless goals in garbage games, Vic has given a Sobotka level effort for most of the year, except for a brief stint with 28 and 21. It's not like Kulich can be a whole lot worse than him defensively and he could, I dunno, maybe help one of the two garbage PP units
Hes played 15/16 games he may have not finished out 1 or 2 though can't remember.

Depends on what you want. I’d rather Sturm than Hertl, but that’s assuming Tage and Cozens can both play. Cost to acquire also factors here.

And I say that as someone whose second team is the Sharks.

Why would he want to sign here he wants to win and so far the rest of the Sabres apparently don't

Derek Roy - Team is filled with all the same style of players.

I agree and not only that they are drafting the same players too.

This team is a mess. Boston should be what they are trying to emulate or Tampa a few years ago.

I'm saying, as a tandem Mitts and Cozens are as weak a top 2 tandem in the league. Bascially, they need to find a way to get more offense from their third line under these circumstances. I don't see Krebs being ready to explode offensively to help offset the loss of Tage. Cozens is a HUGE dropoff to Tage, like massive in both ends, especially with how terrible he's been this year. Putting out a Krebs, Olofsson and Greenway line just does nothing for this team, literally nothing.

If it were me, I'd have sent down Rousek (and waived Bryson perhaps), then called up both Kulich and Rosen. This team needs offense wherever they can get it. Why not try a third line of Greenway-Kulich-Rosen? These guys are doing everything they can in the AHL and deserve a shot.

Yeah. I dont buy into rumors too much, but Adams showing interest in Kane has me concerned.

There were three ways it could've gone. Either they sign a world beater and trade/send down 2 of our 3-headed monster... they try Levi, he stuggles and they have to fall back to UPL and Comrie... or they try Levi, he does really well, and everyone is happy regardless what happens to the other two.

While there's a subset of the Sabres fanbase that naively believed Levi was going to be the second coming of Hasek 9 games in... I'm not exactly ready to call it "amazing" when another subset of the fandom just assume everything the team does will fail. Sabres goaltending issues are up there with the Sabres not making the playoffs in terms of probably the easiest, most surefire bets in professional sports.

I'll give more credit to the people somehow still finding something to be optimistic about.

Who would that be? If you're listing ways it could have gone, thats not one of them.

I suppose it was less "these are realistic options" and more "these are options that have been discussed around here ad nauseum and people seemed to think were available".

Personally I don't really think there was one, and frankly even if we shook someone loose like Hellebuyck, I don't think they'd be as successful as people think here behind this group.

Have to agree. Bruins lose a perennial hall of fame guy to retirement yet the battlewagon just keeps on steaming..... It just amazes (and frustrates) me.

They lost Krejci to didn't they?

I like the guys Buffalo drafted that being said need some team toughness too.
When I watch how Krug has played in St Louis and now, Clifton with the Sabres, I begin to suspect it's the system and the locker room and the attitude and the organization's commitment to excellence that is the difference and not the individual talent of any given player.

You either perform and ascribe to the organization's high levels of performance or you are gone.

There are no participation awards or fourth place ribbons handed out in the Bruin's organization.

When you have no standards and losing forever is fine you will lose forever. It really is that simple. No serious NHL team should be satisfied with a season where you miss the playoffs which is why the offseason victory lap rubbed me the wrong way.
