This is what I’m thinking too. A lot comes down to Landy, but all things are point towards him being back next season. If that’s the case the Avs need to find roughly $7m to move around. Players like Girard, Manson, Wood, Colton and Lehkonen could all become available to help move around cap space.
Yep.. They need to keep Lehkonen. The others can exit stage right....

Just thinking about how a serious franchise would see Cozens’ struggles this year, and go into this offseason with a plan to acquire a 2C. They’d either trade Cozens, move him to wing, or play him at 3C next year.

It feels hopeless knowing that the Sabres are just going to bank on him rebounding next year, and not have a real plan in place if he falls flat again. I don’t for one second think we will try and replace/upgrade that position.

There is another possibility - they acquire an ineffective 2C option to help. That could be someone like Laughton or they overspend on someone like Stamkos who is at the end of the line.

I could see them going for Laughton, I have a really hard time imagining the Stamkos option though.

Heard EF talking of montreal signing college players…one of which is Luke Tuch. Tuch has played 4 yrs of college. He could say he’d go UFA. If he was classified as a senior thrn it’s mid august. If not thrn he can do the June 1/ 30 day declare.. would buffalo sign him if hr chose UFA route

If I’m Terry Pegula, the Cozens contract is telling me I need to find a new GM. As is Krebs being the center of the Eichel trade, but Cozens is costing money. Bad contract after bad contract with this franchise.

Cozens I expect to rebound. Probably not to consistent 30 goal scoring, but to some degree.

Paying Power like a #1 defensemen before he has shown anything remotely close to that is the bad contract.

The Granato extension that hangs over doing something so obvious to help the team is another one.

Lmao Krebs was not the center of the Eichel trade. Tuch was, if i recall it was his inclusion that held up the trade
I guess that we are going to re-write history and pretend that a 3rd line winger was the centerpiece, which is what Tuch was in LV, not the “A” prospect. Getting the best prospect we could was always the key. They identified Krebs as a top prospect, and it was a total miss.

Power is at worst a top 4 defenseman. Cozens is a at worst a guy you don’t want on your team in any role. It’s much more concerning to me, but we are all entitled to our own opinions on the matter.

Tuch turned out to be the best piece, but at the time of the deal, Tuch was a middle six winger with a 5M dollar long-term contract who was out for the year and who just had major shoulder surgery, which was a serious health concern.

As crazy as it seems now, Tuch was the cap dump in the deal and Adams got extremely lucky.

Adams wanted first round picks and Krebs(who was Vegas's top prospect) above anything else if he was moving Eichel.

Problem with Schmaltz is that while his cap hit is less than 6M, he is set to be paid something like 17M over the next two seasons. No chance Terry okays bringing on that actual cash behemoth contract.
f*** that Terry, just the worst dude, the stingy one pays twice.

Saying Tuch was a cap dump at the time is totally disingenuous.

Cap dump is probably the wrong term from Buffalo's perspective, but from the Vegas side, Tuch Was the cap Vegas needed to move out to make Eichel's contract fit.

The fact that he absolutely exploded in Buffalo was incredibly lucky and a situation no one foresaw occuring.

They wanted Krebs instead of Elvenes and Hague. And they waited until he was in the deal. the 20+ goal, 50+ point PF who loved the idea of being a Sabre while on one of the better deals in the league is now supposedly only a cap dump too? Some of y'all... :biglaugh:
