Meh.

How did that work with EJ this year? Ability to play trumps a new voice by a wide margin. They need some quality vets that are better than the guys they are replacing and not just new voices.

Ability comes first. But at 2.5M per season (what we are paying Girgensons currently), you can get both in spades for a 4th line player.

Heh... new name for the center list that I hadn't considered until this morning:

Jesperi Kotkaniemi.

He'll be 24 this summer, already has 58 playoff games under his belt before this spring's playoffs even start. 7 more years at $4.82M AAV, 10-team NTC on his final five years, currently no trade protection. Thinking if Carolina is going to try to sign Guentzel and they have such a good player pushing up with Jack Drury, perhaps the guy who gets moved for cap consideration would be Kotkaniemi.

He already has a ton of games under his belt, both playoff and reg season (400 by years end).

Does he have another gear though? His production is under .5 ppg. Stat watching of course but still. The AAV is nice and he's young. Wonder what it would take to get him out of Carolina.

I like it.

The problem is that the Canes have cap and also a need to sign a number of key guys as well as having a great prospect pool. It's not like shoveling a couple prospects at them is going to necessarily make them eager. They do draft well, reminds me of the Pollock era Habs where they are constantly adding more picks and then getting value with them year on year. It's the same issue with trying to get Drury, though perhaps less so since it could be a cap reallocation situation whereas Drury is still relatively inexpensive.

I would be down for what he is as a cost controlled 3C especially if he's floating that 40-ish points like last year. Maybe it's $300-350K more than I would like but the term is there.

Don't worry.. I won't offer them Owen Power

May need Dahlin’s stamp of approval there as they appear to be arch nemeses

Kudos to Bryson. Many here complained he was one of our depth d man that may get games throughout the season, but him and Clifford compliment eachother well.

Also, the misfit line is playing hard. They probably know this is their last chance to make an impression, so we have another line willing to die on the sword to make an impact.

But, really, I think this team is going to swim or sink with UPL and our three headed monster on defense.

Bryson as the 8 has been okay. They can keep his minutes down with so many options to soak TOI above him and that's important. Glad they aren't pushing Clague into the nightly lineup, at least based on results.
