Zemgus is, hands down, our most valuable UFA-to-be.That's my thought. Nothing for EJ, possibly nothing for Vic. A couple picks in the middle of the draft might be it, if that. *shrug*
Maybe we could get a 2nd for him?

It was likely 2 or 3 years and I'd have fully expected Tanev to live up to it.Being interested in a soon to be 35 (?) year old defenseman is one thing. But to extend?! Come on now Kev
It's basically Tanev for EJ. That is not the worst idea ever.It was likely 2 or 3 years and I'd have fully expected Tanev to live up to it.
Why are you calling me Kevyn?
I have zero expectations of playoffs this year
I completely expected the team to make the playoffs in September. I was wrong about a whole bunch of things. At the beginning of the year, you had zero. Your bar is low

Laughton (overpriced), Jenner (not available), and Broberg are not great fits for what the Sabres need, IMO. Well, Jenner would be nice. But, it does not sound like Columbus is open to moving their captain right now.
Bryson has been low key excellent.
Flame away.
I still hope they don't qualify him. If they want him as a 7, that's fine, but you can't pay a 7 nearly $2 million.Bryson has been low key excellent.

Excellent might be a stretch but no real complaints. Pretty good.Bryson has been low key excellent.
Flame away.
Disagree on Broberg. I think he's a great fit. Big, skates really well, and probably settles in as a Tallinder-style defenseman. I've been on that train for a while.![]()

You're his dad, you can't comment. No flame. Truth.
I think this was Adams original plan -- and he's kind of intending to do that with the Girgs/Okposo/Krebs line, it just failed.I had a dream about Moneyball and the Sabres. Everyone taking about grit and strength and this and that. And all we started to do was add guys that had better goals/60 than what we have in house. And we started winning games because our 4th liners were all scoring 17-22 goals a season each.
Maybe we should try it! Move on from Girgs/Ko/Krebs/VO and whoever else we can improve on!
That strategy typically does not work in the NHL with a cap in place. Teams that have tried to run 4 scoring lines get destroyed in certain areas of the game and the results have been surprisingly poor.I had a dream about Moneyball and the Sabres. He also probably recently realized that the young prospects take longer to get the G/60 up over a long period of time consistently. And also realized that no one really ever succeeds in the playoffs without actual role players on the 4th line.
I don't see Broberg being a great fit when he would be like the 5th best LHD in the system behind Dahlin, Power, Samuelsson, and RyJo. And that is the best case scenario.Disagree on Broberg. I think he's a great fit. Big, skates really well, and probably settles in as a Tallinder-style defenseman. I've been on that train for a while.

Aren't we trying to build that type of depth?I don't see Broberg being a great fit when he would be like the 5th best LHD in the system behind Dahlin, Power, Samuelsson, and RyJo. And that is the best case scenario.

How could the playoffs teach *us* anythingThey need guys who win their matchups. Just scoring goals doesn’t do it if they all hand it all back and more. And if the playoffs have taught us anything, being a team of all cream puffs does not win.
