The volatile nature of goaltending alone could bite them, let alone Skinner being way into the aging curve and any other injuries that might come along. It's not like Thompson hasn't had a bunch so even just banking on him to be peak is folly.
Quinn and Tuch are also injury prone. There's 2/3 of their top scoring line + one of their most promising offensive players.

This also ignores the fact that the team played like a bunch of pansies for a majority of the year. They need to get players here that can set a tone. I dont mean cracking jaws, though that would be nice, but rather players who use their body to win puck battles, players who fight for position in the dirty areas, players who battle like the opposing player slapped their moma, etc...

I'll be so frustrated if they go in with largely the same players upfront. At least Adams made some additions to the d core. It's going to be so difficult getting psyched for the season if minimal moves are made.

They will also be stuck in mediocrity if they make really bad trades and make their cap situation worse.
Yeah. That defense will put a lot of pressure on the offense.

This feels like deja vu from last season, but give me a top-4 RD + revamp the bottom 6 with players that are hard to play against (theyre available every year via trade and FA). I'd be content with that.

I'd love a culture changing trade. Tuch is an interesting piece to me. Injury prone, mediocre IQ, only one year removed from a career year, etc...his contract is nice and he's only 27. It seems counter intuitive when we need more snarl, but Tuch isnt Tkachuk. I'd dangle the fruit to see if we could get a two way, top-6 player. Last year was such an outlier for him. *I know Adams won't trade Tuch*

Anyone have any precedent for the quality of veteran that a prospect like Rosen (#75-100) plus a high second (#40) could return? A trade of that size and flavor feels most likely.

Trading a quarter for a couple nickels and a bottle cap?

Sissons is essentially the middle six center we need, signed cheaply for the next 3 years. Nashville has less of a need of him with O'Reilly essentially moving into that role. Schaffer is a prospect with size that can develop in the AHL, and the extra 1st is (at least in my mind) would be used to improve the team more this summer.

Use the excess cap space/picks (especially combined with a Skinner buyout) to add an elite F this summer.

If you want to make a deal with Nashville, hold to L'Heureux. Schaefer's skating is worse than Brett Murray's.

Will Adams do anything? Doubt it..

Olofsson for a conditional 6th or so and probably one of his vets for a 3rd-ish is my expectation.

No reason to trade the Buffalo fan to try and shake the culture. That would just make it collapse into nothingness.

Trade idea.

Girgensons (50%) to Boston for Beecher. Boston would need to send down Brazeau and Lohrei to make it work, but they can put Lindholm on LTIR if they need to just to make it to the playoffs. Girgensons is their type of playoff add, who can play center and wing.

I like that trade because I think Adams will eventually need to make some trades, and Beecher slots great as a 4C.

I really would like Adams to take a swing at Fabbro and Broberg as well.

Your bar for success is very, very, very low if you think that the Maple Leafs have been sucessful.
They literally make the playoffs every single year. That’s the definition of success for me.

If you’re not re-upping him on his next contract, you have to trade him within the next two years. We’re fine waiting for a little while though to make that decision.

I don’t see Boston doing this.

I'm not too familiar with their prospect system, wasn't aware he was that slow. Just a former high pick with a big body. Sissons + B tier prospect + late 1st/multiple 2nds (which Nashville also has)

You get some immediate help that fills a hole and ammo to go out this summer and fill the hole that Mittelstadt leaves while changing up the dynamic/structure of the top 9 considerably

Mittelstadt for Ross Colton++ is a similar trade I'd consider as well, as the structure i'd consider as well.

I am also fine with waiting until this summer to deal with it. I don't want to go full term with Mittelstadt, I'd do a 4 year, 24-26M deal with him though.

If we are moving Mitts, i'd want a cost controlled potential top 4 RHD coming back. Could be someone on an entry level contract with upside. Someone in a win now mode, that has that type of prospect but can not utilize them in this years playoffs.

That would really help the cap situation on D moving forward. Then we can focus on adding to the top 6 in an offseason/draft trade.

Yes it makes us get even younger. We aren't competing now anyways.

Has Krebs been promoted to see if Mitts is expendable?

This team is desperate for a #2-3 defender and Mitts+ could get a #3 defenseman. From reading all of the pundits it seems like it will be a seller market for someone like Mitts.

I’d intend to extend him unless he wants some absurd amount.

None of those players move the needle for me if I’m trading Mitts. I’m only willing to trade him if we are getting back a top 4 D that isn’t under 23 years old nor over 30.

Imo it's very, very likely that Tuch, being from the area with a young family, prefers to be a Sabre-for-life barring some extreme circumstances arising.
You're living in a fantasy world where someone would be willing to play for a bottom feeder team his whole career just because he was a childhood fan. It's not how most people's mind works.

Pat Kane won't even play for a shitty loser team for one season, and you think Tuch would willing throw his entire career away? Because he had the jersey as a kid?

His wife's family also comes to play, especially now that he has a kid. I think a lot of people are in for a rude awakening when he won't even accept an over-pay to play in Buffalo.

There's no way Tage isn't in your top 6 fantasy keepers for next year, right? Think they might fire the coach?
