Or when he's shooting way outside the dots. Is he afraid to go to net now?

I've been questioning his lackluster play all year. It's amazing with all the **** this board has thrown at brown gaborik has been 100 times worse.

For the first the this year he at least looked to be moving better last game...hopefully he wakes up soon.

He couldn't be Sleepy with all that bright yellow and white staring at him on Tuesday night. Back to Sleepy tonight with midnight black sweaters.

He's been invisible because Brown's busy leading the team in shooting.

-Gaborik's speed isn't being used in the Kings transition game.

-Gaborik's shooting ability isn't being used because the lines he's on don't play that kind of hockey. (Brown, now Shore/Lewis)
Edit: I often wonder what the hell those guys are doing too.

-Gaborik isn't great at grinding in the corner and board battles.

-Gaborik is probably standing around trying to figure out where Brown/Lewis/Shore are going with the puck, wondering what the **** they are doing.

Gaborik is clearly lost playing with his linemates. On thing that hasn't been tried yet is putting him with Pearson. Pearson's speed/playmaking ability would probably fit well with Gaborik. Since Sutter has to have Brown on the top line because he's trying so hard, run Pearson/Shore/Gaborik. Of course Sutter will have to be facing a 5 game losing streak to get desperate enough to try something like that.

I've been thinking that Brown, as much as he looks improved this year, still doesn't have the best hockey sense.

His passing is very suspect and I think it brings his line down.

I'd like to see Gabby with Pearson and Kopi.

Pearson Kopi Gabby
Lucic Carter Toffoli
King Weal Brown
Clifford Andreoff Lewis
Nolan

Shore (AHL) I don't think his numbers will translate to the NHL.

Brown's skill set is more of a 3rd line guy. I think we will see what you have here, but I do not think Gaborik deserves his promotion

I just don't see his fit on other lines. If he can't be used as a scoring winger, than maybe he should be moved out. Unfortunately, his stock doesn't look great right now.

brown should be moved out due to contract not due to his play IMO. That said not sure who would take him on for that same reason .

Great minds and all that I guess.

The problem with Gaborik this year is that he hasn't been doing anything, even the stuff he's good at.

Gaborik is invisible because of Gaborik, not any one else. His effort is abyssmal.

Gaborik was on some pretty horrible teams and played with much worse players than Brown, and never one as good as Kopitar. He's done much more with much less. He's older now, but players of his caliber don't need to rely on others to create. It should be Gaborik generating speed and opening things up, he shouldn't be waiting to see what happens on the ice. He's an initiator.

He just needs to get his **** together, that's it.

Gaborik will be ok. He had a similar start last year, though it was arguably because of injury then. He looks to be thinking too much and trying to do too much with the puck but without skating...Sutter's criticisms of Brown apply to Gaborik in that if he's doing all the right things (i.e. checking, skating) then he will also be able to get to the net. How many of his goals since he's been here have been from outside? He's like an aging wide receiver whose best gifts are his hands, just put him in the right spot and he'll bury...and by 'put him' i mean he has to get there :)

He will have to reinvent himself a bit now, not gonna burn many people with just speed on the outside anymore, though he does have that one move where he keeps it outside and just pushes the puck with a little speed burst to get around a d-man...needs to do something with it after that.

Brown isn't the problem with Gaborik. The elephant in the room is Kopitar. Every time he enters the zone now he looks at the net and then peels back to the boards, gets outnumbered and loses the puck.

Just compare wingers on Kopitar's line with Carter's. Carter makes everyone better, Kopitar worse. Carter could probably turn Lewis into a 20 goal scorer.

Yes; Kopitar makes everyone looks worse; that is why he plays the most.
Now I ll go bang my head in the wall; more productive than reading this.

I disagree on that. The reason Carter's line is so effective is because they work well together, not because Carter makes them better. They feed off each other. Kopitar has had a revolving door of wingers this year and we all know Kopi prefers to pass up a shot than take it himself, but he has more goals than assists this year which is almost never the case and I think that's because his wingers (primarily Brown and Gaborik) have been pretty bad.

I do agree that we need to see more out of Kopi, but let's not dump this all on him. Gaborik has been the worst forward this year in my eyes. For whatever reason he doesn't seem interested this year and stopped skating. I'm confident that we'll see him start producing sooner rather than later, but let's not say his lack of production is because of Kopi.

I wouldn't be so quick to make fun of that comment. I agree. Carter makes everyone on his line play better. He even made freaking King score more goals at one point when Pearson was injured. I bet if you put Gaborik on his line, he would get going.

That said, I am not sure if Kopitar makes the wingers on his line worse. He is an elite number one center. But I agree that he is not playing his style lately. He drives down low, and just passes the puck back up to the point when he gets outnumbered. The few times he actually cuts into the net, he creates opportunities for his wingers.

Kopitar isn't elite anymore, not even close. He is still great defensively but he is awful on the pp and is doing next to nothing in the offensive zone. He's the one playing like a top notch 3rd liner. Kopitar is still my favorite player but he hasn't been what he was for quite a while now. When was the last time anyone saw him make a great individual play driving to the net?

Why then does every forward that plays with Carter seem to be more productive?

Gaborik has been bad, but let's not pretend Kopitar is doing all the things that he should be doing.

Carter makes his wingers better.
Kopitar does not make his worse. that is an absurd statement.
Gaborik has been crap without Kopitar as well.
Brown has been decent and provided energy with and without kopitar this year.

Kopitar doesn't make his wingers better either at this point. His game is predictable. Skate it into the zone, go behind the net, throw it back to the point. Rarely if ever drive the net.

Reading a lot recently and seeing the stats the past few years, I really think the Kings are stalling with Kopitar because they are resigned to the fact that Jeff Carter is their #1 center.

The Mayor said this on his last podcast.

If Kopi wants 10-11 million, why pay him that and handcuff the Kings for years when the Kings have Carter locked up longterm for 5 million.

Unless the Kings can dump Brown, Gaborik or Martinez.

Kings need still to lock up Toffoli long term, probably add a defensement and re-sign Lucic. No way we can do that with all these long term deals.

Carter is in great shape, has an inexpensive contract, has speed and size and now can play defense. He also has some edge. He is prototypical Sutter and Lombardi player now.

I love Kopi and know he can't be replaced but that max contract scares me. For the first time ever I have had thoughts of what LA might get in return for a trade.

Two biggest mistakes DL made in my mind are:

Richards non-buyout.
Greene instead of Mitchell.

Brown and Gabby's contracts don't look good in hindsight but I get why they were given and supported them at the time.

Kopi is still young and can still be a huge part of the team. Better keep drafting well.
