Whats the scout report on Ebert? Cannon shot but nothing between the ears/ attitude, rings a bell for why he dropped in the draft. Hows he looked?

Fast, good first pass, decent shot (not great). A-Mart with better skating Ceiling (pretty much), less Experience, Still needs work defending.

Kid is a fast puck mover with decent size, but still needs work, He is right handed though.

Oddly enough, I think Ebert has a higher ceiling than Miller. Some games Ebert looks like a wizard with the Puck, then some games he looks like a disaster.

Needs to be more consistent, but Nick Ebert is skilled and fast.

To me, any of Forbort, Martinez, McNabb, Ehrhoff, McBain could be getting traded.

I agree.

I doubt Ebert/Schultz will play at all, they are simply insurance should more injuries happen on this road trip.

Still don't understand the hate on AMart or Muzzin from some posters....why people want to trade them is beyond me. Now Brown........ :)

Martinez made more sense when he was a #5 making 4 million--not trade him on ability, but salary slot. But now that he's a #3-4, that's appropriate compensation.

Now Muzzin that's a different story altogether. I can count the number of players at his ability and salary on one hand. Borderline #1 on a contender, great #2-#3. Only other guys at that value off the top of my head are Brodie, Josi, Fowler, Shattenkirk...few more around there too I'm sure but none of them locked up

Looks like they might have taken it down but general fanager tweeted that with the moves the Kings have 12K left in space. And speculated it was to get max relief from LTIR.

Why not? Those two things aren't mutually exclusive. Mersch is the better player and prospect and Weal has concerns, I agree with you there. But you can't possibly think that Brown and Shore aren't a better safety net than Andreoff and Nolan, especially when the player in question is a small, skilled playmaker type.

Again I'm not saying it's unfair because that's just how hockey works but Mersch (through his work and skills) is being put in a position to succeed and Weal is not, he's just being used as an extra forward on a crappy line with bad road matchups. What exactly do you disagree with?

Edit: I'm not trying to be combative, I just genuinely don't see how what I'm saying is so contentious.

I didn't take you as being combative :) I am just saying Mersch put himself in a position to succeed. He has a better safety net, but Weal's struggles are not related to production/quality of linemates.

Weal needs to define his game and play it assertively. I don't expect production from him. It would be a bonus, sure, but my contention is the statement that Mersch was put in a position to succeed as if he and Weal have played equally.

Oh for sure--let me clarify then because I'm agreeing with you. I think Mersch has earned his way into that role; I just don't think Weal's game is suited for the 4th line especially with grinder wingers. He hasn't shown us anything otherwise, I don't mean that he DESERVES to be higher, but I just don't think anyone benefits from him playing 5-6 minutes with Nolan is all. I posted in the GDT that I think he'll likely be on another roster by the end of the year because he clearly needs NHL development time, and as a contending team, it doesn't look like we can afford to give him that--and he's really as NHL ready as he's going to be in that sending him down doesn't help, he needs to sink or swim at this level but we dont have the luxury of time that a rebuilding team might.

yep no point sticking him in the ahl
he's kinda done what he can do there, winning cup etc
maybe he'll go to an nhl team where he can get some toi to develop
doesn't seem like he has a spot on the kings.
it makes no sense to keep benching him and playing 7 d-men
wearing down forwards
its not gonna be good for anyone in the long run.

Honestly, McBain has been a blessing to LA. Guy has earned another contract imho.

He'll probably be moved out for youth tho, eh?

Jeff Schultz told me after practice he was loaned back to @ontarioreign this morning. Both he and Ebert were practicing today in Ontario

So then it begs the question, a little different than we were asking before, when we were asking why NOT put a dude on IR--why put him on LTIR now? Precursor to another move? Freeing up roster spots and cap space for what? We certainly need another forward on this trip...

Oh and I don't know if it's been mentioned but Rosen let it slip in an article that Greene's issue was a shoulder surgery, FWIW to anyone. So it's not a concussion and not like they didn't know he'd be out for a while.

King has also never been put on LTIR so that is another one that could go. And he could come off anytime since he has been out the required number of games.
But yes it does sound like there might be a trade brewing that the Kings want the max cap space in order to make the move. Or they know Greene is done for the year so get max value out of moving him to LTIR after these call ups.
And looking we don't have anyone in Ontario that makes enough money to warrant the moves for space. We have the space to bring any of them up.

Greene had surgery i think last week. He will be out for at least 3-4 months. So that would bring him to March/April. Plus the 2.5 mill will be nice to have.
