So...the starter is a question mark but we should move on from the backup for a cheaper more unproven option...and you think we already have these potential backups...somewhere. Either the guy who has played 0 pro games or the one that has and has let in 5+ goals pretty much every night in Roch lately. Or the one they won't play now sitting on the bench coming off the concussions who isn't even the AHL starter.

...

Ok.

Maybe TM offers Chad a contract, I don't see it happening.

Will fix everything
I think Chad Johnson probably goes somewhere he has a better chance of starting or at least platooning.

Carolina, Calgary, etc.

I bet he at least tests the market.

Which is why we should offer him a multi year deal now... Something that would likely double his career earnings to this point. He'll have to choose between that financial security or testing a volatile market

Oh no, my backup goalie is signed for an extra year at a million bucks, when cap space means nothing to me, I'm screwed and regret the signing.... said no one ever.

I'm not sure I understand some hesitation in giving Chad Johnson something like 3 years $5.5 million.

I find it bizarre that fans wouldnt want Chad back for 2 years/$5m. We expect them to at least compete for a bubble spot next year right? And if Lehner gets hurt again? How's that going to work out for us tossing Ullmark/Kasdorf into the fire?

Chad's a proven vet, seems like a good guy who is happy here. Let Ullmark really develop his game (he has a ton to work on) and we can reassess the back up position in 2 seasons.

Why look elsewhere for a slightly cheaper crapshoot option, when our guy is already here? strange.

I don't think it's a hard argument to say he has a chance of starting here, though. Lehner still has to prove he can be a starter. He couldn't stay healthy last season long enough to establish himself. Anywhere Johnson goes, he's going to have some competition for crease time.

I know it's a foregone conclusion, but Nathan Lieuwen is so gone after this year. He played pretty well in Rochester but they bring him up to sit on the bench behind Chad and then they talk about getting Kasdorf into play one game before the end of the year. I wonder what he thinks about sitting on the bench - maybe how he'll like it in Springfield or San Antonio or wherever if he gets an AHL deal with someone.

I would overpay Johnson for one year to stay, since Lehner hits RFA status in one year. TM can decide what he's got in Lehner when it's time to re-up, and if he's not that confident he can try to re-sign Johnson for longer term then.

Re - 3rd line after Gionta...Kane-Larsson-Foligno would be pretty awesome, but with LHD such an issue I doubt TM is able to shore up the top six wingers well enough to drop Kane there for long-term. I can hope though...

It depends on how the prospects progress, namely Fasching, Bailey, Baptiste, Cornel, Karabacek, and (hopefully) Caggiula. If those guys can help plug the top 6 on cheap deals, it makes sliding Kane next to Larsson a little bit easier to work with.

I would not give Johnson 3 yrs.

Assuming Ullmark wasn't claimed in the expansion draft, in year 3 of this contract, Ullmark has to clear waivers given it will be year 5 for him.

Pre expansion draft I expect buffalo to sign their 2 prospect goalies ( Petersen and Johannsson) because they will be exposed to expansion if not signed.

If we actually land Cagguila does he start with the Sabres or Amerks next year?

It's too bad the Amerks are out of the playoffs, I'd love to see Cagguila get some time in the AHL to better determine that going into next season. ND getting to the Frozen Four also hurts him a little in that he can't burn the year if he signs with Buffalo and doesn't get the look with the big club.

Girgensons - O'Reilly - Fasching is a line I would like to see continue into next year.

I would like to see Bylsma put Kane with Foligno - Larsson.

Ennis - Eichel - Reinhart, I would like Rick Nash in place of Ennis.

Gionta has played well down the stretch but I would put him on the 4th line entering next year. Gionta isn't playing quality minutes on any playoff team.

Go get Enstrom. Find another LHD. Package Ennis + Bogosian/Pysyk.

I think this offseason will be the most exciting one yet. Everything else we kind of saw coming. This offseason Murray is going to try and finish this rebuild off. Adding quality veterans to mix with the youth.
