I'd try something unconventional with Stamkos. 3 year deal at 11.5 each, set it up like ROR deal with 10.5 paid July 1st. Don't really want a 31 year old Stamkos, he would be in the way of somebody else by then. Either in ice time or cap hit.

Stamkos is young enough to see the potential for another payday at age 29, he'll get a better deal than he would age 33. He should be a huge leap ahead in scoring and get some shine with ROR, Sam, Jack.

Let's Buffalo off the hook in 2 seasons with an amazing rental to trade July 2. There are enough playmakers that Stamkos maintains production/value for 2 seasons. Jack & Sam sign long term, Stamkos got his bonus so only gets paid 1 million with that cap hit and is only 28, with 2 seasons of fluffy stats from ROR, Sam & Jack.

Won't want him after that, other people to pay. I'd rather pay extra for 2 or 3 good years with the understanding its just a mercenary business move that might pay off for everyone.

Does Poturalski fill the same lane as Rodrigues in the prospect ranks? Poturalski is only four months younger and they're putting up similar numbers in their 21-22 season. Both on the smaller side, both probably playing wing at the pro level.

If Fasching turns pro and starts the season in ROC, I'd have to imagine he, Bailey, and Baptiste are all ahead of Rodrigues and (potentially) Poturalski as the RH wing recalls.

Poturalski can also play in the middle, much like Harper, even if his likely future would be on the wing. Granted, that's if he even wants to come out since he is just a sophomore. Estephan is another year away from AHL eligibility and while Ace points out Cornel as a possible option for a contract, I am not exactly blown away by his performance this year. It's going to be a step down from someone like Varone to him.

Just to stir it up, I didn't see the annual Larry Fisher fling against the wall mentioned yet. Sure, he's always wrong, but it's a view from outside the homer bubble as to perceived valuation.

1) To Minnesota Wild = Tyler Ennis
To Buffalo Sabres = Jason Zucker, Christian Folin and a 2017 fourth-round pick

2) To Boston Bruins = Cody Franson
To Buffalo Sabres = Colin Miller, Matt Irwin, Seth Griffith and a 2016 fifth-round pick

3) To Pittsburgh Penguins = Jamie McGinn and Matt Moulson (salary retained)
To Buffalo Sabres = Beau Bennett, Josh Archibald and Tim Erixon

4) To Edmonton Oilers = Mark Pysyk
To Buffalo Sabres = Dillon Simpson and a 2017 third-round pick

INCOMING = Jason Zucker, Beau Bennett, Seth Griffith, Josh Archibald, Colin Miller, Christian Folin, Matt Irwin, Tim Erixon, Dillon Simpson, a 2017 third-round pick, a 2017 fourth-round pick and a 2016 fifth-round pick

OUTGOING = Tyler Ennis, Jamie McGinn, Matt Moulson, Cody Franson and Mark Pysyk

(Assuming he's not considering the 50-contract limit so maybe something like McCormick or some of the interchangeable 10th-defensemen would be shipped out for "future considerations" as well)

Rightly or wrongly, the Oilers do like those former Oil Kings — the junior team that shares their building. Sure, most those moves were made by the previous management regime, but former Oil Kings GM Bob Green still has a loud voice and was able to convince Peter Chiarelli to go after Griffin Reinhart in a draft-day trade. Pysyk is cut from a pretty similar cloth and the Oilers might fancy reuniting that pairing as pros. Buffalo would probably be more interested in the pick than Simpson, but the Sabres aren’t exactly overflowing with defence prospects, so Simpson could be appealing. Or perhaps another former Oil King goes the other way, be it David Musil or Martin Gernat.

Just... what?

That #4 trade is just putrid.

Agreed, but the other ones seem like overpay the other way... except Beau Bennett should quit hockey before playing for Bylsma again. Zucker and Folin for Ennis, I can't see why you wouldn't. Zucker is one-dimensional but his dimension is shooting, Sabres need that. Getting Moulson off the roster for anything at all, yes please. Franson for cheap spare parts that can make mistakes just as easily, why not?

I don't know what our contract total looks like but there's no way Cornel isn't getting one and heading to Roch. I'd think Kasdorf has earned one too as long as Johansen is still in Europe and Peterson is back at Notre Dame. Who else is from the 14 draft? Martin and Karabacek?

I'd be surprised if they did not sign Cornel and Karabacek, the contracts won't be an issue. Their contracts won't count till 16/17.

Hey, all I'm saying is if the reports are true, it could do a LOT for this franchise going forward. Despite the Pegulas' best efforts we're still the team no one respects in the city no one wants to live in, so if the most highly sought after UFA in whoknowshowlongprobablyever WANTS to be a Sabre, are you telling everyone here you'd show him the door?

Those players who grew up in southern Ontario ( Toronto/Hamilton/st Catherines area) think differently of buffalo.

Who do you think is going to take Moulson off Buffalo's hands?

My theory is that there was a handshake agreement with Moulson and retiring when asked or when their ELCs are done. He would retire fir sure in 2018.

When they signed them they knew they had Reinhart and figured a high pick in 2015. Those two would be done with their ELCs in 2019..since they started sooner it's now 2018,

We get 3 players and a pick for Franson

OK, this has been a long saga, but what are the cliff notes as to why he's not signed yet? I know the conspiracy theory that he's going to Toronto already, so I'm curious as to what TB may be doing to delay his signing? Are they trying to 'fit him in'?

That's a commitment statement from Tampa Bay.

Good for them. This shows myself in any event, that Tampa feels strongly that he will re-sign with them. The risk of him leaving must be deemed significantly low in their thinking.

or at some point you have to realize the point of playing this game is to raise the CUP and not become obsessed with future returns. If Stamkos helps them raise the CUP, it'll be a nice departing gift if he walks for nothing and they retain a bunch of capspace, perhaps move his rights for something at the draft/pre July 1.

He wants more money than TB can fit/will pay. That's all it seems to be.

Both are plausible. We'll have to see how this plays out is all.
