Top 7 or better protected gets thrown at them, top 5 is a hard choice that probably ends in "yes" depending on how the board falls.

I am not interested in either defenseman (available at 5) given apparent progression.

I'd do it at 8+ but thats with Chychrun & Juolevi off the board, which the Sharks probably wouldnt do. Would love Vlasic, but then in 2 years he'd get a UFA pay day we'd have to squeeze in, doesnt fit the window, even if it might open faster with him. Wouldnt risk moving 5-7 for him with a chance at one of the young LHD's.

I am not trading our first for anyone older then 24. Just keep our first. No trades. Only way I trade our first is if it's a move down if we win the lottery. Then I'd trade #1 for either #2/3 + another elite trade piece.

Vlasic is not at all "too old."

I'll buy an argument that says shipping the first out for him when his contract expires at the same time as Jack and Sam's might not be smart cap management. But Vlasic is young enough to make this team better not just the next two years, but for the next six or seven.

He's elite.

Depending on where Buffalo ends up drafting, I'd rather take on of the top 4 forwards, Chychrun, or Juolevi. Maybe if they pick 7 or worse, I'd make the trade.

The arbitrary "older than 24" thing is stupid, but to be fair, there's a pretty big difference between 26 and 29.

That said, I'd probably trade a first for Vlasic, depending on where the pick ended up.

Also Wood posted buyers scouts at tonight's game in the scouting thread, but saw no list. Hoping he posts it soon, be interesting to see who has potential interest.

No way would i trade for Vlasic, especially our first overall pick. He is elite now - Hes not going to be elite in the 2 or 3 years when we need him to be.

Next year's, sure, but their management wouldn't do it, & SJ fans are super high on Vlasic, he would require a top 6-10 pick, player (think Foligno) and prospect (Guhle).
I'd do that if the 1st was in '17, but again, SJ (management or fans, imo) wouldn't. They're not at that point yet, they still feel they have a closing window.

More likely it has to do with the drama over his pending UFA status, rumors of Toronto and supposedly having issues with his coach and the position he plays him in.

If his problems are these, then he lacks focus and mental toughness. Pass.
