lol love seeing all of these different combos

Kane-Eichel-ROR (Landy-Duchene-ROR, ROR protects Eichel at the dot/C matchups)
Moulson-Girgensons-Ennis ('14 1st line)
Foligno-Reinhart-Gionta (vet protection, easier matchups, flanked Grigorenko well to finish last year)
Deslauriers-Larsson-McGinn (*******s)
Legwand - enjoy your paycheck
Hodgson - enjoy your buyout

McCormick (IR)
Schaller
Carrier
Kaleta - Amerk darling

Here's my latest line combo thinking:

Girgensons-ROR-Gionta

This is the defensive zone draw, tough assignment line. Shelter the rookies--for as good as they are and will be, there will still be an adjustment period to NHL level play.

Kane-Reinhart-Ennis
Moulson-Eichel-Larsson

I will probably flip flop on these two combos a ton. But the balance on those lines is pretty nice. They should get roughly equal ice time.

Hodgson-Legwand-Foligno/Deslauriers

Until Hodgson is actually traded/bought out the working assumption is he will be here. And until McCormick is medically cleared the assumption will be that he starts on IR. Foligno and Des compete for one spot then.

Edit: forgot about McGinn. Right now he's in that 4th line competition, though when Hodgson is dealt with that'll help.

Not worried, confused. So what are the Sabres sitting at - now, this year (not after a hopeful OReily extension)?

$56.69M for 12 F, 4D, 2G

McCabe $1M.
Pysyk RFA
Larsson RFA
Eichel $1M
Reinhart $1M

Assume RFAs are $1M each at least. $61.69M for 15F 6 D, and 2 G

Hodgson is $4.25M ..a buy out would count around $1M against the cap in 15/16.

If they get a LHD that costs $5M or so would put them around $67M

For 16/17....they have Johnson, legwand, ROR and the player they acquired with him as UFAs and foligno, Deslauriers, Girgensons, and Ristolainen as RFAs.

A ROR extension wouldn't have any effect on the cap this year. It's not like the NFL where the contract is restructured. An extension technically is a separate contract just tacked on after the current one.

Spotrac says we are $2.5m over the floor. That's without Larsson, Schaller, Pysyk and whatever other RFA's we might re-sign, not to mention potential UFA's we might sign.

About 56.7 mil, not counting Eichel, Reinhart, Larsson, Pysyk, and McCabe. A FW will have to go though, probably Hodgson or McCormick.

Hodgson definitely. Probably both Hodgson and McCormick AND one of Moulson (limited NTC), Gionta (NMC), Foligno, Larsson, McGuinn and Legwand.

Thanks for the link, that site doesn't stall out my browser ala nhlnumbers does.

Interesting on Legwand re: a buyout option... I'd almost rather buy him out at 2/3 for just 2 seasons than be still paying Hodgson 8 years later.

We don't need to buy out Legwand ... we're not going to be in any danger of the cap.

Assuming injuries and all of that...the Sabres can still stack a good forward line-up. It's also a versatile one. I made a whole lineup and forgot to even add Foligno as 3rd or 4th line LW. With O'Reilly and Girgs abilities at center, that takes a ton of pressure off Eichel and moves Reinhart to start at RW (or a few games in Roch).

One of Ottawa's outcast D will be a Buffalo Sabre tomorrow me thinks. I'm hoping it's Wiercioch and not Slack Jaw Mc'Cowen.

If ROR's asking price is 8 years at 8m per, I think a front loaded contract might do the trick to whittle that number down to 7.5 per over 8 years. That is the target, IMO.

B. Murray giving T. Murray a break on Wiercioch tomorrow would take the sour taste of the Lehner deal out of my mouth for sure.

Done as a bruins fan after today. As long as Neely is there, that is going to be a **** show. Anyways, I like the trades. A bit much for Lehner and tough to lose zadorov, but you had the assets to grab what you needed. A young, cost controlled goalie with huge potential and a top 6 forward with leadership. I like the looks of your team and think you will beat out the bruins this year anyways, not that it's saying much.

I like the idea of pairing Eichel and Reinhart with O'Reilly and Girgensons, any combination. I'd like each of them to be able to play on the wing, and even switch from W to C during a game if needed.

Ennis-O'Reilly-Eichel or O'Reilly-Eichel-Ennis
Kane-Girgensons-Reinhart or Kane-Reinhart-Girgensons

That way each of the two best 2-way FWs are always on the ice with the rookies. The rookies can slide in at C at any time and slide back out if they're struggling, without disrupting lines.
