1. Don't see Buffalo taking that deal
2. Byram is not worth 10M, more like 6 maybe 7 M tops

He’s already making 6.25M per, he’s getting at least 8-9M per on any long term deal.

I agree Pelech alone is not enough but he has term at a reasonable cap which I assuming is attractive in any Byram return.

Would be the worst possible nigthmare if true.

And if true....How desperate was Darche to just get any GM job if his work will be tainted? He was a finalist for the Penguins job and was considered the next great first time GM candidate. If so hard to believe that he would take a job just to be a 100% puppet considering he's not exactly like Marc Bergevin or Garth Snow who will never get a GM job again.
I'm afraid this could be true. When we were interviewing for the GM spot. He wasn't the first choice, from report it looked like he was closer to the third. Didn't 2 guys decline or passed on interviewing?

It's Darche's first opportunity. He had to take what he could get...my feeling.

Listening to Marek today, Jarmo Kekalainen tendency to trade up in drafts. He has done it 16 times with Columbus and now once with Buffalo - 27 + Kesselring for the 20th OA.
Will he try to do it again?

Maybe there is something there with 20th + for the 13th?
  • Pelech and 13th for Byram and 20th?
  • 13th for 20th and one of their young forwards... I dunno Kulich? too much? Or maybe one of their young RHD prospect and a 2nd rounder in 2026.

Let's sit tight and let the Country Clubbers go at the end of this season.
Then we have the cap space to make moves.
While moving Pelech now (Cause for one he made it through a season healthy) makes sense, This team is so far away.
If the deal blew us away, fine but if not, bite the bullet and say goodbye to the deadwood.

I wouldn't do Pelech & 13th for Byram & 20th for the simple fact Byram has 1 year remaining and he wants a new deal in the 10M per range. We can't do that.

Serious question that I asked before he was hired: based on what exactly was Darche considered the next great first time GM candidate?

Exactly. So we're going to drop 7 spots in the draft and trade Pelech for one season of Byram before he walks? Or is Darche going to trade him at the TDL when we're in a playoff spot to recoup assets? Not. Byram is a LHD and some team that he'll be willing to sign an extension with will trade for him. He's a bad fit for the Isles. Let's move along.

People who are saying the Islanders should have dealt Lee at the deadline are WILD.

No team is going to trade their captain while they were in the middle of a playoff spot at the deadline. Give me a break.
I agree with this, but I think you are a little confused about it. It's definitely a move fans want, but would never be done in the NHL. We still can think it was the right move and yearn for the days of a GM who has the balls to do that.

Want vs reality don't need to intertwine here.

Then Scott Malkin is proving he doesn’t know what he’s doing. He hasn’t yet grasped that hail mary’s to make the playoffs and teams built for early exits from the playoffs don’t sell season tickets.
IF you are going to make statements like this, at least supply the whole context.

Failed Hail Marys don't sell season tickets but they do sell more than dealing your captain at the trade deadline for picks and prospects.

St. Louis is going to have a drop in season ticket sales for sure.

Just an idea, maybe it is more like -

13 for 20 + Kulich?

Barzal? If we move Barzal to Buffalo. I want guys like Helenuis and Mrtka
nah , I think he means isles 1st / 13th ov trade down scenerio with buffalo's newly minted 20th ov.

thats about as far back as I'd want to trade down (Piiparinen territory) . Sabres dont have any 2nd or 3rd round picks to entice but could have a prospect Darche likes that wont hurt the Sabres too much .

Bryan would be a major upgrade on this blueline.

Pelech for Byram…sign Byram to a 4 year 10M per extension so NYI gets his prime years and he can sign another monster deal at 30 years old.

Takes some pressure off of Schaefer and doesn’t block Aitcheson because Byram can play his off side.
would he be happy with pp2 minutes or does he wanna be the top dawg

17 is as low as I would go to trade down. Best scenario is St Louis is in love with a player and we might be able to squeeze a couple of the multiple picks they have in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds

While there might be somebody at 20 that can end up a good player, less chance that player ends up a top 6 forward(7 if you counting 3rd line center) or top 4 defense. That would be the point I would almost take a chance and swing for the fences and take Klepov or maybe somebody like Bleyl
