Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2025-26: Welcome to the Darche Side

Romanov, even with Montreal, has always been loose positionally , frequently running around.
I don’t see that he’s going to improve drastically, it’s just his DNA
On a team with a solid top three or four he is a very solid piece of a D corp. Unfortunately prior to us drafting Beerman we had 1?, 1.5?.....keep Romo and improve the rest unless Romo can bring a return you do not refuse.

Exceptions prove the rule though. That's why your list is so short, and ancient at that.
The quote I responded to was:

"No team is going to trade their captain while they were in the middle of a playoff spot at the deadline. "

That statement is false.

Drawing major conclusions from a 15 game sample size is an interesting choice that some people have made.

I want to get rid of Romanov. He has a monster contract, he is our #3 LD. Provides little offense and we have Aitcheson coming up in the next year or two. If we can get good value for him I’d move him in a heartbeat.

If we end up drafting Gustafson that will make moving Romanov a priority before his NTC kicks in.

I would like to see Darche push for Maverick Bourque in Dallas. You may have to take Lyubushkin back as well. Robertson may want 13-14 million and see if you can force Dallas's hand. Jim Nill is not a rookie GM though.

Does anyone know if Seguin's contract is going to count against the cap? I don't fully understand some of the LTIR changes.

He was a rookie there under a somewhat rookie coach, he hasn’t had the best defensive coaching on the Isles. I’ll give him and DeBoer some time to make adjustments that benefit him and the team.

IF you are going to make statements like this, at least supply the whole context.

Failed Hail Marys don't sell season tickets but they do sell more than dealing your captain at the trade deadline for picks and prospects.

St. Louis is going to have a drop in season ticket sales for sure.
The context is Islanders fans will not buy season tickets the following season for a team that gets eliminated in the first round. They certainly won't buy tickets for a team that misses the playoffs. And had the Islanders traded Lee at the deadline after acquiring Schenn and then made the playoffs I think there would have been more goodwill with the fans for next season at the very least.

Any uptick in season subscriptions in 2026-27 should be considered an outlier due to the All Star Game at UBS.

Crazy stuff......boom or bust on this one?
Considering it’s the Leafs, his point totals will probably drop by roughly 15-20 (and his +/-tanks) next season and then decline from there after another year. This is the Andrew Ladd summer (2016) on repeat.

Darche needs to look at moving anyone 30 and over, this team should be building around 28 years and under players only.

Your completely wrong on that. It was "reported" that Darche and Lee had agreed not to discuss in-season a contract when in fact Lee had wanted to get something done before. Darche to date has offered only a 1-year deal at 1 million salary and bonus for games played. Darche made his bed when he signed on for Palat at 6m and Schenn at 6.5, Then offering 1 million to your Captain and 3rd most productive forward on the team this year and leading goal scorer last year. It is time for both parties to move on, but to imply Darche has been anything other than a mediocre rookie GM is mistaken. The last thing this organization needed was a rookie GM.
Are you part of Anders Lee's representation?

Wait two weeks and see what the UFAs get paid. Then, ask yourself what constitutes a monster contract over the next half decade.

Being on the third pairing—or any pairing—is not indicative of the minutes played, which seems to be what you’re suggesting.

I’m also not penciling any prospects into our lineup until they demonstrate that they are capable.

Formenton is a UFA, turns 27 in September, was turning into a promising 3rd liner. With the Isles AHL team in Hamilton, he may pass on Isles as he probably needs half a season in AHL.

Didn't say it would be easy just said he should look at it. It’s a younger mans game now.
I’ve said it a few times. This team is 2 years away from a complete forward overhaul if they don’t make any major changes beforehand. There’s only 4 veterans signed after 2028 with only 3 RFAs worth bringing back long term. Ideally after you have a veteran forward group with: Barzal, Horvat, Holmstrom, Heineman and Ritchie to look forward to. By 2029, JGP will be done and Engvall will be who knows where. Personally I think it’s one more year of a status quo roster and then major changes start in the 2027 offseason. You have Cizikas, Palmieri and Palat all off the books next summer with Duclair and Schenn the following one. Plenty of room to at minimum see what’s in the system before trying to look for trades. Realistically you’ll see guys like Nelson, Eklund and Eiserman atleast get looks this year and hopefully none alongside Reasoner and Pandolfo.

You can always find veteran players to plug in and trade for to contribute.

Currently, the Isles know the max output of their ‘core’ players and it’s been proven they are not good enough, individually and collectively, so start moving them now for younger assets now.

No thanks to turning over the veteran core to have that veteran core, that learned from the same guys that could never get it done and are the cause of the problem. Once, the isles have the cap space…they need younger assets to fill it up, which the best and most effective way vs filling the cap up with junk just to spend the money (see the Devils). Or use those assets for a premium trade for a player that has less trade protection.
