Usually after a heart procedure or surgery you are on blood thinners for 6 months. I would be surprised if he plays again this season.

Educated guess here but based on the limited info released I suspect he had a procedure through his leg to close a congenital ASD (atrial septal defect) “hole in his heart”. Alternatively, there are a few other things that could have been done such as an ablation for an arrhythmia or a Watchman procedure. Both are unlikely based on what is public knowledge.

If the procedure was an ASD closure then typical treatment is taking both low dose aspirin and clopidogrel for 3 months then low dose aspirin afterwards indefinitely. A “blood thinner” (anticoagulant) is probably not part of his treatment unless he had a blood clot in his legs or lungs (DVT or PE) or if he had atrial fibrillation or flutter.

Long story short, if he had the ASD closure then aside from conditioning issues he would likely be cleared to play 3 months after the procedure, once he has stopped taking clopidogrel.

All of our players should be held out for “ trade related reasons “

Ok so we all feel that Romanov, Barzal,Horvat, Holmstrom, Dobson , and Sorokin are the future core add Max if you like .
Are we winning a Cup with these guys ? No … I know where we are and see the age and see the total lack of talent in Bridgeport .
If it makes us a much much better team in 3-5 years then all these guys should be available unless they have a no trade which seems to not mean that much anyway .. Let’s shut it down and stop the nonsense …LGI

Guess it depends on the situation. Unfortunately I am all too familiar with PFO’s/ASD’s. Which it does sound like Reilly had. Thankfully he is ok, but I guess the blood thinner can be anywhere from 3-6 months, regardless there is no need to rush him back this season. Let him get his confidence back and go into next season with all that shit behind him.

So over the past few years Florida has acquired:
  • Sergei Bobrovsky
  • Matt Takchuk
  • Sam Reinhart
  • Sam Bennett
  • Carter Verhaeghe
  • Seth Jones
...Added to other top 1st round picks in Barkov, Ekblad, Lundell. Not hard to see why they're one of the top teams in the NHL.

Lou's resume over the same period...
  • Bo Horvat
  • Alexander Romanov
  • Kyle Palmieri
  • JP Pageau
  • Pierre Engvall
  • Anthony Duclair
Not rocket science to see why one team might win another Cup this spring...And why another won't make the playoffs (and hasn't hit rock bottom yet).

Lou's problem is that he actually doesn't go "all in" enough for trades. The Bo Horvat deal should be the *floor* for the kind of talent he should look to acquire (when traading a 1st round pick). Instead he is way too flippant with 1st rounder and uses them to overpay for average talent.

And Lou's free agency/player contract resume is even worse. Need perspective on this...? OK...

Adam Boquist/Scott Perunovich (defenseman):
  • Cost a total of one 7th round pick to acquire...
  • $1,925,000 total cap hit
  • 17 games played
  • 6 total points
  • 0.35 points/game

Anthony Duclair/Pierre Duclair (forwards):
  • Cost a 3rd round pick to acquire...
  • $6,500,000 total cap hit (until 2028/2030 respectively)
  • 71 games played
  • 17 total points
  • 0.23 points/game

This is Mike Milbury level work. If people would stop putting this unnecessary "godfather" aura around Lou and just looked at his resume without Trotz, you cannot defend this GM work. It's fireable on any level.

...And it's going to get much worse until he is.

It really boggles the mind with how mediocre these guys are and how much this team suffers from it. Duclair and Engvall are so soft that it just messes up the identity that the islanders are tenacious and don't give up. They lack so many grit players now that everything is deteriorating as a result. This team is getting more production from Boqvist and Perunovich than their usual defensemen as well, what does that say about Lou? What does Lamoriello even believe when it comes to this roster? At some point you have to say "we aren't good enough as a roster", and THAT is why he isnt remembered as fondly in NJ.

I know that these owners do not get involved with on ice hockey operations but someone needs to explain to them that if Lou runs the same team out there next year there will be a lot less season ticket sales and a huge attendance drop. That they will care about.
Yesterday’s game ended around 3:30pm. This was the first time people left the game and Scott Malkin’s Mall was still open. It was finally warm enough to want to be outside. There were several people handing out discount coupons to entice people to check out the mall. My wife and I went but very few others from the game did. And there weren’t many shoppers there either.

Imagine if your likely scenario comes true and even more people drop their season tix. Malkin’s kinda captive audience that might spend some time shopping after a game will be even less than he was planning for.

You also BARELY have day games anymore. Its actually frustrating seeing them have less and less saturday/sunday matinee matches at UBS

My understanding is that Malkin was never intending Isles fans to visit the mall. Rather the primary target was rich tourists visiting Manhattan. That is why the train service is so important. These tourists typically don’t have a car.

Gosh you have an uncanny ability to remove anything positive about a person. As usual I am fine getting rid of Lou but if he trades Nelson + Palmieri at the deadline I don't have any beef with the guy.

"GET RID OF ANYTHING POSITIVE ABOUT A PERSON AND YOU WILL SEE JUST AS I SEE THAT THEY SUCK."

It's like the same all or nothing mentality that has overtaken many aspects of life.

At the same time, the NHL is always talking about ways to grow the game. Weekend matinee’s are the obvious way to grow the game and yet we see less and less.

That is true, foreign tourists are his main target. But included in the demographic was repeat business from patrons of the arena and the race track. Those people are on the property, why wouldn’t you try to attract them?

Lamoriello hasnt done ENOUGH to justify his lack of moves

WTF?

Are we trying to replace Lou or write his eulogy?

When Mike Mulbury traded Luongo and Jokinen for Parrish and Kvasha and was utterly failing as a GM (and coach) you would have wanted us to talk about the fact he also found Chara?

This isn't 2020 where we should be discussing some positives and negatives to tweak the roster to get to the Cup. Lou has led us to a team with literally no hope at a Cup now. We've been bleeding for years and now this patient of a hockey franchise needs the ICU - 100% because of their President/GM. So sorry - Not really anything positive to talk about right now about the one person solely responsible for this mess.

Tell you what... When Lou is gone I will post some positive things about his character. Until then pointing out how he is failing at his job (which he gets paid lots of money to do) is literally the whole point.

100%. Any bump from an Isles game or horse event is a bonus.

The Bicester collection, which this ‘mall’ is based on is an hour outside of central London, no one drives there. It’s immensely popular and profitable.

I have no idea what will happen in the next few days, but tomorrow's game against the Rangers is the biggest of the season. A W and Lou will keep the train rollin'. Could a Loss be the final nail in the coffin this season?

If you are rooting for a retool, then you are rooting for an Isles L on Monday and Tuesday.

However, a win against the Rangers tomorrow night would mean 22 games left and 4 points out of a playoff spot.

If the fate of this franchise’s future is determined by the result of one game, we’re probably screwed no matter what happens.

I’ve been comfortable rooting for losses for some time now. I’m not sure I can do that against the Rangers, but if that’s what it takes for a retool!

They have a general manager who actually does his homework and takes risks, something Lou doesn't do at all.
The biggest issue that he has no creativity.

He could have traded players like Mayfield and Varlamov in the year we missed the playoffs and then used those assets to acquire NHL talent, but he's shown no tendency to even consider that. All he's done is trade futures for mostly role players and sign them long-term.

its worse because if Hogberg plays DECENTLY then why even keep Varlamov? It speaks volumes to how much better the defense plays without Mayfield and Pulock too. It really makes you question how good Lamoriello is at identifying talent at this point
