What possible deals are out there that can move out our UFA’s and bring back a younger player and still allow us to contend down the stretch ?
No team will be giving up NHL players with greater current value than the pending UFAs we might trade. That’s not the way these trades work. We trade now players for younger players with potential and/or some lottery tickets.

This is the thing...We shouldn't have to think. It should be clear the way we watched several GMs on non-playoff teams sell off players already - Including a GM of a team ahead of the Isles in the standings sell two of his players just today.

Why are we not sure that a GM of a non-playoff team in dire need of younger assets is going to do the right, common sense, and best thing for the franchise he runs by trading two fading mid-30's pending UFA's - Who happen to be the #1 and #10 trade targets on everyone's boards?

To hold on to either Nelson or Palmieri is GM malpractice of the highest level. And given where this team is at and what the need in the years ahead, resigning them is almost as crazy as letting them walk for nothing.

But Perif, aren’t you forgetting that we won today? What if we won… another game

Have to think the return for Dobson would be double this.

At least.

Nobody said bringing back players with greater value , what was mentioned was players that would allow us to still contend while getting younger. Mittelstadt was mentioned by another poster, I was thinking a team having a player who might be ready for top 6 roll but hasn’t gotten the chance yet

At this point you can trade Nelson, Palmieri, and Pageau for a f***ing HAUL and use these assets (or part of them) to get fresh players for the locker room + cap space in the offseason.

For the love of God Lou do the right thing despite whatever this team accomplishes before the deadline.
And last 2 games couldn't have gone better for showcasing the possible trade guys: Brock & Palms 2 goals each, Pageau 1 goal.

Now, we just need losses against NYR (which I hate saying) & WPG so Lou doesn't get a glimmer of hope and then he will have Wed, Thurs & Fri to do what is right to help this club.

And please no injuries, because you know Lou won't sit any of them, especially if he thinks we could still be "in it"...

Nelson to LAK, JGP to Toronto, Palms to Vancouver.

If anyone is confused here, it's you. If you cannot put together that if someone does A and then as a result of doing A they derive short term limited success and in doing so use that "success" as the basis for subsequent poor decisions, then A was not a real success. It was, in fact, the genesis of future failure. But you want to say, "Good job Lou for doing A, I applaud you." when A was the actual f**k up. That is your confusion. It wasn't a good job, it was idiotic to think that that that team that took advantage of wildly unprecedented circumstances was the one reinforce and build upon. It clearly wasn't. But you want to have it both ways now and you can't. Well, you can, in your mind, and in the minds of all of the other hypocrites who loved Lou then but want him gone now. You all saw exactly what you wanted to see and your collective misjudgement and misread was as poor as his.
Weird, last time I checked if you do something that derives short term success, then it was actually a success.

Christ, I almost want Brock Nelson to say put now.

With Reilly close to returning, a defenseman or 2 have to go or lose for nothing on waivers.
Is he really close to returning? Kinda thought he might be hanging them up. Good for him.

@SRBisles “I have extremely little faith that any of our guys will be moved. In fact I think it’s more likely that Lou does an Engvall type soft buy if we’re hovering around 4-5 points out come Friday. Praying I’m wrong.”

I’m praying that your praying is answered.

He is practicing in a full contact jersey.

The fact that the Rangers are holding out mediocre players like Smith as to not risk injury before trading them, and we’re running out Nelson and Palmieri every game tells me everything about Lou’s intentions.

Not selling is malpractice, doubly so with the returns going in other trades so far.

I mean Lou is just embarrassing himself at this point (and putting the franchise at risk in the process).

Teams out here sitting Reilly frickin' Smith to protect his trade value...While Lou won't sit the #1 trade target on every NHL executive's board.

(...And he might not trade Nelson at all.)

Let’s not forget when Tavares was a pending UFA and we held on to him and got nothing in return. The additional ammo from moving Tavares at the deadline may have been what we needed to add the missing pieces during the ECF runs.

You guys realize that if Lou doesn't trade Nelson by March 7th that means one of...

  1. Nelson will walk for nothing.
  2. Lou will resign Nelson, taking up significant cap space, and thus pretty much guarantees the same group is "running it back" next season.

How is either one of those options acceptable for any of you? And more importantly - How is that acceptable GMing?

Gonna be a lot of bending-over-backwards rationalization on here come Friday.

I know that these owners do not get involved with on ice hockey operations but someone needs to explain to them that if Lou runs the same team out there next year there will be a lot less season ticket sales and a huge attendance drop. That they will care about.

Totally agree with you in theory and it's what should happen, but unfortunately not enough season ticket holders will abandon their tickets to make a difference. If Lou comes back I'd love to see an empty UBS come this October, but even 25% less would be notable.

Lou Lamoriello not doing a thing this deadline and keeping the same roster for next season is the very definition of insanity. I genuinely dunno why they would think this team is good enough for a cup run at all. yes the east is horrendous sans Florida, Toronto and Washington, but the fact of the matter that this team still depends on Sorokin to win games and lacks a dynamic offense is why I beg they just tear down the roster.

Pulock, Nelson, Palmieri, Pageau, and Dobson all should be made available. Varlamov too if he ever returns. Seriously I just dont understand what Lamoriello is doing if he holds onto Nelson at all. You literally can get ASSETS in return for a dude on the last leg of his contract: do it!

the worst part is that the isles could've gotten more core parts to pair up with Barzal in that span instead of needing to constantly trade 1sts just to get players. This is why I just don't agree with "just keep trading your future for proven players, because this team lacks the foundation like a Florida or Colorado or Carolina or even the Rangers. Just horrendous by this team to keep lying to itself for the past decade.
