I don't agree. A GMs job is not to just give up. He got something that just cost a contract rather than giving up a draft pick to try to make the playoffs. You have no clue how much worse it could have been.On the face of it, I hate this move. Even setting aside the issues with TDA as a player and person, this is such a disappointing move because it indicates that Lou still thinks this team has a shot. I can only hope that the only impact of this move is that Lou sells TDA to some desperate playoff team at the deadline.
I just posted that, and then read your comment, lol.I haven't seen anyone mention that Lou didn't trade a pick or prospect for someone to fill in as RHD/PP guy. It's league minimum, prorated for half the season. Probably for a guy Lou had to hold his nose for. Kinda makes you wonder if there maybe aren't some ownership handcuffs in play? If people are looking for a silver lining....
Quite possible he won't be with the team yet.Of course we will get to face Rantanen in his first game as a Cane
That would be ideal.Quite possible he won't be with the team yet.
As long as he’s not taking back teams useless bottom of the roster players with multi year deals in return. Really don’t need to add to the Pierre Engvall list.Lou needs to be open for business.
I guarantee you that if the team keeps performing this way Nelson and Palms are not going anywhere.Wanted DeAngelo in the offseason. This is a very good move for the organization and hope he can find his maturity to become a long term piece here. Next move up is to sell Nelson and Palmieri.
I guarantee you that if the team keeps performing this way Nelson and Palms are not going anywhere.
The signing of DeAngelo could mean Dobson is on the trading block.
Watch him go to Vancouver for Miller.
Lou really likes Miller.
This is spot on correct to everybody but LOU.......Why would they go after Miller? Miller and Horvat had problems out in Vancouver if I recall. The team is currently 26th in the league, 6-4-0 in their last 10, 15th in the conference, 6 points out of a playoff spot only being ahead of Buffalo.
Not only is the season over but the team still is not performing well. Trade Nelson.Trade Palmieri. See if DeAngelo can be a piece for next season. The team is not winning the Cup, not winning a playoff round, and not making the playoffs this season.
You get picks, you get assets, and you move on for next season with a boatload of cap space. I do not NEED Lou fired like many of you here (I did not hate this last offseason at all) but if he does not trade Nelson and Palmieri he needs to be fired.
Dobson is hurt and week to week. This signing probably means he’s out more long term than short term. Highly doubt Lou has him on the block.I guarantee you that if the team keeps performing this way Nelson and Palms are not going anywhere.

What way? Win 3, then lose 2? That way ain’t gettin them nowhere at this point.I guarantee you that if the team keeps performing this way
It is still 6 weeks before the trade deadline. Never underestimate Lou.Dobson is hurt and week to week. This signing probably means he’s out more long term than short term. Highly doubt Lou has him on the block.
Vonnegut? Ok. They won 6 of their last 8 games and look so much better lately. I think you are missing the point. Lou is not a sell off and tank GM. He is a go for it GM. You are thinking rationally while I am pointing out how Lou thinks which is win now. My posts are not what I would do but what Lou will do.What way? Win 3, then lose 2? That way ain’t gettin them nowhere at this point.
And another thing, Vonnegut, Lou going dumpster diving to fill the Dobson hole doesn’t mean he’s all in on the rest of the season. Not even close.
They moved salary around, dumped a vet and picked up a mid-round pick. That gets you into the HF Hall of Fame.CHI traded Hall and retained 50% on Rantanen and got a 3rd round pick? Am I missing something?
Quite possible he won't be with the team yet.
Whatever it takes to stay futile enough to get Gavin McKenna in 2026 and Landon DuPont in 2027 before they change the draft rules AGAIN.CHI traded Hall and retained 50% on Rantanen and got a 3rd round pick? Am I missing something?
I hear what you’re sayin, not disagreeing. When they lose the next two it will be 6 out of 10. Not good enough at this stage with the hole they already dug. There’s nothing to worry about, there’s too many teams ahead of the isles. Isles are not making the playoffs.Vonnegut? Ok. They won 6 of their last 8 games and look so much better lately. The Vonnegut line is from Back to School
Rumor Mill:
- Colorado isn't done, they aren't thrilled with Mittelstadt
- Nelson has been connected to Colorado
Mittelstadt (26 years old) is a clear downgrade on Nelson, but under contract for two more seasons at 5.75M per, although I am not sure I see him as a center, especially with a 40% faceoff win percentage.
I'm just connecting two dots, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was a swap that could happen.
