I remember the good old days when Casey wasn't 1G/1A in 25 games . . . maybe he should stay home too

I’ve gotten more than my fair share of hot takes wrong but I hated that deal from the git go.

Despite the somewhat attractive lower AAV it was destined to be way too much term for a player with a style of play that typically doesn’t age well.

I think a top 6 team in either conference would take him on at or near the deadline. He would be good for someone like Toronto on the ice and optically off of it.

I hear you, but Roy has no one to replace him or MacLean who has sucked this year. No one from bridgeport who can come up. Shit, that is why Lou brought back Martin.

Funny part is, and maybe I'm the only one. I still think Casey is a perfect fit at the TDL for a playoff team.

No one is going to tell me that - Parms, Nelson, Casey, and Pageau won't be positives for playoff teams to acquire. For me, the last two would I think would do well in a change of scenery

I just don't want Lou making these deals. He's going to get hosed on all/any of them!!

I agree with pretty much everything you said though keep in mind the following. JGP and Cizikas might be attractive to a playoff team, but no one is taking either player without salary retention. 1/2 a season Palmieri or Nelson will return some assets though if the Isles retain salary on those two then our return will be even better.

It’s frankly too early to even discuss the TDL but here we are doing it, myself included.

It’s not limited to retention, it could also just be salary coming back. Czikas is more than worth his contract at that price.

JGP cap hit is 5M, but his cash price is 4M this year and 3.5M next year. If you want assets, then you keep JGP, the. Flip him next year as a UFA (or in the summer).

Fair point regarding the other option of us taking salary back. No reason to do that unless it’s for an expiring contract.

As for Casey having value, I agree that he might help fill in the gap for a contender on a fourth line, but he’s still way overpriced and has too much term.

If Lou is trading guys, he’s gonna need to get back some players with hope and dreams, so salary purposes, but also since the Isles don’t have budding players coming underneath.

On Casey, look around the nhl, at 2.5M for his role, it’s more than digestible. Add. In 70+ playoff games under his belt, he has value to a team looking to go deep.

Re Cizikas: In 3 months he’ll be 34 years old and he has 2 points in 25 games this year. Granted his linemates suck but his ice time is pretty much the same as it’s been for the last 8 years and his productivity is horrendous.

He’s not nearly the same guy you remember as the leader of the identity line and the guy who was one of the league’s best players on the PK.

Everyone gets old and in professional sports it’s painful to watch and hard to accept.

He’s not worthless but his value is now near a league minimum contract.
