Some people don’t want to face realityThis thought alone tells me you should call Rosie Palma and see what she’s doing today. Sheesh.

I don’t necessarily disagree but it’s kind of hard to do when he’s at 42% in his career on face offs and moving him back to center could cause issues in the lineup with guys being out of position.I really wish the Barzal on the wing experiment would end.
Might as well try it since Horvat is having a down year on faceoffs with a 47% and Holmstrom could move to right wing which is his natural position, I'm sure Horvat is fine on left side.I don’t necessarily disagree but it’s kind of hard to do when he’s at 42% in his career on face offs and moving him back to center could cause issues in the lineup with guys being out of position.
If Pageau isn’t a 20-30-50pt player there’s no way to trade him without an add-on.
Palmieri and Nelson's contracts expire at the end of the season. Maybe Lou can get Nelson to sign a right-sized extension, otherwise I'm fine with trading him for assets. I have no interest in extending Palmieri. Trade him when possible. You're telling me! I have been downright stunned for years how not only posters but actual media people do not believe Pageau is anything but a cap dump. The organization does nothing of significance until the following contracts are gone:
Palmieri
Nelson
Lee
Pageau
No, not everyone needs to be gone but keeping anything more than 2/4 at a maximum with a paycut would be an extreme mistake.

He looked so good preseason, was flying, but once the games started and the pressure ramped up he has barely fired a shot, literally!I really wish the Barzal experiment would end.

Palms can get a 1st by himself. Nelson can get a 1st + a prospect.Agree 100%. If we're selling by TDL Palmieri and Nelson go. They can go separately, but if a team wants both I look at the Palmieri+Zajac trade as a comparable of what I'd want back. If you recall the return was a first-round pick, a conditional fourth-round pick and prospects AJ Greer and Mason Jobst.
I'd be looking at a first and a second + prospect like Greer/Jobst personally for a deal involving both Nelson and Palmieri, but maybe a 1st, 3rd and some kinda combo of B/C prospects could work too.

The next 3 games are against Anaheim, Columbus and Buffalo. I’m with you but the mood on this board may be way different in another week.Truth, but waaaay too many other people think that this team is only like a trade or two away from Cup contention.
I've put Palmieri on my trade block in the past but if they still want to be competitive while at same time re-tooling with good drafting they might want to extend him . He still has good wheels and nose for the net and strong work ethic . Maybe he's satisfied with 3.5 x 2 yearsPalmieri and Nelson's contracts expire at the end of the season. Lee and JGP have another year to go. If Lou doesn't sign anyone else to an over-termed ball and chain contract maybe we can finally have cap flexibility in 2027 when these contracts expire.
If he keeps up his current production then the Isles will be priced out of a deal like that.I've put Palmieri on my trade block in the past but if they still want to be competitive while at same time re-tooling with good drafting they might want to extend him . Waiting for the surroundings to catch up to Engvall's contract is not a good way to do business. We still haven't got a useful player, and his contract makes it hard to do anything with him. Even sending Engvall down to the AHL requires some cap gymnastics to bring him back up to the NHL. Had Duclair not gone on LTIR there was no way to bring Duclair back up even if he deserved a recall on merit. If he keeps up his current production then the Isles will be priced out of a deal like that.
For comparison sake, Engvall is in year 2 of a $3M x 7 year deal and the cap will be going up. I’m not suggesting that Engvall would get that deal in today’s market but if Palmieri remains on a 30+ goal pace he’ll make a higher AAV or even worse, a Lou special long term/lower AAV contract.
It’s hard being an Isles fan with your elderly uncle running the show.
Let someone else give it to him. 10 years between 30 goal seasons for Palmieri. Sell high.If Toffoli got 24M from San Jose, Palmieri should be able to get 20-25M.
I don't understand. I thought we were talking about the defense. What do you mean you have no idea? Couldn't possible fathom? We're dead last in goals for. When you need your goalie to shutout the other team to win, isn't that asking him to stand on his head for the season? The defense carries some of that weight, but it's not like I took some major logical leap in my post.
What if I phrase it like this. If Sorokin plays league average this year, how do you think we'll finish?
Completely agree, just saying his comp is a lot higher than 2 x 3.5M per.Waiting for the surroundings to catch up to Engvall's contract is not a good way to do business. The answer is don't give out stupid contracts.

Dobson is maybe the most overrated player I have ever seen. The ROI for Dougie Weight hockey is two first round picks: one, that keeps getting chance after chance and sucks, the other, all offense, scaried cat defensively and soon to get paid $9M. Yikes!
But the rebuild will only bring better returns. Guaranteed.
