I was told Barzal is bad? He's got 15 points in 17 games. He's been very noticable during this road trip. He's our main play driver. This place is insane

I still see our biggest issue on the 3rd line and defense. Pospisal is what the isles need, not a Lindholm or whoever else.
What’s the isles actual record during his points ‘streak?’ It’s nice to see him stepping up and getting points, but doesn’t look so hot when the team ain’t winning, blowing leads, losing in OT, etc.

Well, he can’t be blamed for everything. He’s not being blamed, just more evidence that he’s not a top tier center that can put a team on his back.

The ‘he’s getting points’ on a team that is kinda floundering is a little to close to the Oli Jokinen world.

Isles not practicing tomorrow. Gut says Lane is gone in a 10am press release
4 points with 1 win this past road trip against 3 lottery teams wasn’t anything to get excited about.

Still, it was enough for Lambert to keep his job for another week. Methinks Lou has him on a very short leash.

I mean if you're going to fire the guy today is the day to do it. You get to get a practice in with whoever is taking over and then a home game after 4 days off. Looks like it just might not be happening.

Just maybe Lou knows it’s not the coach but the flawed roster

Or just maybe ownership has tied Lou’s hands from making any moves.

Ownership is not canning Lou folks. He’s been a steward for the franchise since Malkin bought the team.

If a management change is made, then it will be in the offseason. They took a year plus massaging the league/teams on who to hire while Snow was the GM.

While Ledecky is a cheerleader, Malkin is the cash and strategy of the franchise. Highly, highly doubt an impulsive firing of Lou is going to happen.

Changing the coach is par for the course of running a sports franchise. Malkin ain’t getting involved in that.

If anything Collins will take on a larger role once Lou moves on and he will make the GM hire.

I never said Lou was getting fired. But if the plan is to have Lou step down after the season just maybe ownership told Lou not to make any moves.

I speculated recently (along with my Sun 11/19 firing prediction, so take it for what it's worth!) that if the team keeps losing and nothing happens except maybe a minor deal or callup it raises the possibility that ownership told Lou that they're running the rest of this season with the roster and coach that he believed in and then will evaluate after the season based on the results. Is that an outlandish scenario? It's their team, after all.

Except that if Lambert is fired Malkin is then paying him plus his replacement. So, I think he would get involved in that to some extent.

Last couple seasons Lou's taken the blame himself for not filling the gaps in the roster. Since he's been here he's systematically filled the holes one by one. Can't imagine he's going to blame himself this time around. Everybody needs to step up or get booted out.

What would be the point of Malking "running things" for the next 5 months when they could fire Lou now and get a jump on everyone else towards hiring his replacement?

And do you think that Lou would ever agree to bring controlled like that? No chance.

I liked your logic on the 11/19, it does seem that since the rest of the Metro ain’t so hot (those SC Cup contenders in NJ…), the isles didn’t lose that much positioning. If the rest of the mid pack teams took off and let isles in the dust, then different story.

Trotz was making $1.5M in Washington, the cup triggered a $2M escalator. He left when McLean balked (really, McLean said thank you, I have a cheaper option ready to go and he wanted to reset the power structure) Barry signed on for 5x4 for $20M with the worst GA islanders w/o JT and savior in the wings Ho-Sang!

Lambert ain’t getting paid a $1M+ so last season the Isles paid maybe $5M for Trotz and Lambert. Based on that, flawed logic and all, Malkin is willing to spend up to $4-5M on a coach. So, lambert maybe 750k seems like a non-issue to hire a legit NHL proven coach for $3M.

I didn't mean that the owners would be running the team - just that the team (Lou) would run with (or go with) basically the roster and coach with no major moves.

Lou is safe for now, unless things go all pear shaped and the Isles go on another lengthy losing streak. Lambert is expendable and is probably hanging by a thread at this point. What's keeping in his job is probably that he was a Lou hire and Lou moved Trotz aside to hire him. Watching Lambert fail with a Lou amassed roster is gonna hurt the GM and so he waits for as long as possible to fire him.

At the end of the season, things might look somewhat different. If the owners takes a quick look at the standings and the current contracts/cap situation they might well realize the trouble this franchise is in and act accordingly.

I agree with this. Most recently, Engvall and Horvat are significant upgrades over the players they replaced. I do find fault with not adding a vet for the third pair but Lambert's insistence on playing Aho over Bolduc and perhaps Salo makes that his fault as well.

Core is still as follows
-Barzal
-Horvat
-Sorokin
-Dobson
-Pulock

Nobody else is safe. Not even Nelson.
