Why bring up Holmstrom? Would much rather he continue getting more minutes in the AHL than bringing him up to be a 4th liner/healthy scratches. No reason to rush him. But how is Pitlick a retread?
One reason that I can think of is that Holmstrom will know NYI's penalty killing system/communication (assuming they use the same one in BPT).

Has Ross ever played RW? As far as I remember, he's never played, with Martin healthy, on the same line.

Holmstrom is able to contribute offensively to a much greater degree to Ross and is just as responsible defensively. Time to give him his first regular season action.

I could see Ross for this game given it's the Rangers, but let's not kid ourselves about who's the better option between the two.

I think he's played both before, but he doesn't PK so that could be an issue.

A 4th liner on the Islanders who PKs ends up getting 15 minutes a game. Holmstrom does all-purpose minutes in the AHL. He PKs there. I don't think Lambert would go out of his way to shield Holmstrom's minutes in the NHL. Just continue to use him situationally.

I think in either situation, they'd be a healthy scratch for a bit while Soshnikov takes the Clutter's spot on the 4th line and PK. Then Holmstrom/Pitlick gets to practice with the tram and see if they can fit in and earn playing time. So, it'd be a while before they actually even played on the 4th line.

But Pitlick cleared, so the point is moot anyway.

Reilly (and Zaitsev) on waivers. Reilly is the exact player we need to fill that last LD spot, but he’s got another year at 3M. Gut says Lou passes

It will cost even as a UFA but I have a hard one for Horvat. Just seems like the perfect fit for us. He’s Pageau on steroids with more skill.

To me Salo and Aho haven’t done enough to justify NOT claiming Reilly. Think it’s the right move honestly.

Agreed, that last year is probably a problem. Not insurmountable but the money can probably be used better elsewhere. That said, if there was some salary retention, the Isles could send back a middling asset to help offset the cost and it works for both teams.

Agree on both points!

Neither one is making anywhere close to 3 million either, so there's that. Rather have the dough for a significant add at the deadline. This team ain't perfect by any means. The 60 minute effort isn't there yet. But it sure looks exciting thinking about how they'll be once it is there.

I admittedly haven't given this much of a look, but how is Reilly not good enough to crack a Bruins blueline that doesn't have McAvoy and sometimes Carlo?

And at 3 MM a year for this and next season?

I'm hungry to see a real NHL blueliner next to Mayfield (even if Aho's recent play has been "slightly" surprisingly decent), but I can't see management seeing it as such at this juncture, much less for that price tag.

I am 100% on the Horvat train. He would add so much versatility to the lineup. He plays on the PP, PK, great on faceoffs, will be on the ice when the team is up or down a goal late.

If we are at the deadline and firmly in a playoff position I would love to add any of Horvat, Larkin, or Kane.

The more the blues lose, the more it feels like the Lou move would be to bring in ROR. Stanley Cup winner, Captain, on the wrong side of 30… checks all the boxes

i say if horvat is available now get him pronto. it's early enough where he can move us from a bubble team to a legit threat. if we wait, either the price can go up, someone else can swoop in like calgary did with kadri or we can miss out on the wins getting him now would help us secure in a tight division and conference

No argument here, he would immediately fit in the lineup. Horvat is a swiss army knife and you can never have enough of them in the lineup.

Although the way we are playing i think this team is more than a bubble team as is.

those 3rd period comebacks as a regular thing is not ideal. horvat would allow us to maybe play better from the start and put some games away early
