Thats my take at the moment. If you're at $9M+ already, just match what the Devils are offering at $10.xM and see where his priorities are.

We’re an older team and if we want to win now is the time. Passing on gudreau for a million cap hit would be stupid. It’s not like we’re going to use that cap hit on anything good instead. Overpaying players isn’t the worst thing in the world if it’s the right players. I’m sure Tampa fans are really upset they’ve been pressed against the cap for years now-wow must really suck seeing that.

Hopefully Lou doesn't go above that. Gaudreau is a nice player, but shouldn't be paid as a top 15 player - Not to mention jam up our cap that much especially in the short term.
