Once again, does anyone actually know what Jeff Daniels coaches as part of this coaching staff? Like, we know Gleason handles the defensemen and the PK. Schonfelder has the goalies. Rod appears to handle the PP and late game man-advantage. So what does Daniels do?

Even Google doesn’t seem to know. It just lists him as an assistant coach and then goes into the many roles he’s played previously in the organization.

Does he even exist or did the organization just invent him to be the scapegoat?

So you're saying he's our consigliere and knows where all the bodies are buried.

More or less.

I’m mostly just saying it’s kind of wild. He may be the most forgettable guy involved in the Cup run. With how often we’ve called him up and down to be the AHL coach and whatnot it’s easy to think he came to the big club later after his Charlotte stint and forget he was in this exact role in 06.

I have no idea on that account, and would be doubtful on anything it posts until proven otherwise. However, if they want to make another major trade, Svechnikov is really the only piece they have to potentially move.

They’re not going to move Aho, Jarvis or Slavin. I’m sure they’d move Kotkaniemi if they could find a taker and it made sense…who else is there for a “roster” shakeup?

head case

Making fun of someones physical attributes is cruel. Just saying . . . :D

If by that you mean he lacks hockey IQ. A guy with his size and decent enough speed should have been able to turn himself into a useful 3rd line type if he could read the game at a reasonable level. There's no shit people on this sub forum (myself included) that read the game better than him but don't have one tenth the talent for the game.

Just get a 5G bucket and cut the front off.

I mean maybe you get him on league min and bury him in a 2 way in Chicago but, the dude only skates in straight lines and is kind of hockey stupid.

Yeah. I mean the guy is kind of a post. That's my whole point really. I told my wife when he was here that he might be the dumbest guy I've ever seen play in person. Hes a guy that would tear up in finland, maybe even the KHL. But in the NHL he's a complete wash.

Who's most highly rated? Artomonov or Nadeau?
Both will most likely play top 6 in the NHL.

edit: I'd add that Artamonov has NHL ready height/weight already (a little taller and heavier than Jarvis right now) which should he continue to progress will allow him to get to the League pretty quickly too.

Boy oh boy I just CANNOT WAIT for two straight weeks of:

“Does Carolina flip Rantanen at the trade deadline if it’s not working out?”

“Is Rantanen a good fit for the Canes and RBA’s system?”

“Did the Colorado Avalanche REALLY win this trade?!?!?!?!?!?”

Buckle up guys and gals, with the way parts of the hockey world (especially on twitter) seem to pray for our downfall, we are in for a fun break.

About the only thing I want to see at this point is that GMET and Rantanen’s camp have started to have just more than preliminary talks on a new deal. That, to me, would signal mutual interest in an extension. Seems like there hasn’t been much of that.

Sure, it’s been just over 2 weeks since the trade, but to me, they need to get down to brass tacks as soon as possible

between now and 3/7, there’s going to be mountains of speculation. Likely most of that will be negative in terms of the Canes’ actually extending Rantanen. For better or worse, the front office has earned that reputation.

Yeah, so far from what Tulsky has said publicly and from what insiders like Seravalli have said on DF, the FO still seems very much in “We need to let him get his feet wet and adjusted to the area,” mode.

And while it is still early and there have been unfortunate circumstances to hit the team (flu bug) since the trade, I am beginning to wonder how much of an impact his slower start is going to have on negotiations.

I’ll be honest, the element I’m worried about the most is that if it doesn’t seem like Rantanen is gonna light the world on fire with us or at least show signs of having great chemistry with guys like Aho, Svech, or Jarvis, that Dundon will look at it from the perspective he often does and offer him well below what he wants and his market value.

And I’m not in the camp that thinks Dundon won’t ever pay big $$$ for a superstar type player like some in Canada do (cough, cough, nick kypreos, cough, cough), but I do think he really has to believe that’s what he’s getting to dole out that type of contract.
