Lol, both are obviously off limits in a Pettersson trade.

I can see why Nikishin would have been off limits before the extension, but with EP's extension, I think Nikishin is fair game. So is Jarvis, frankly. Would I move Jarvis in a trade for EP....no, but nobody should be "off limits" if you think you are getting a 100pt center back with 7 years of contract term. EP is not worth both in the same package, but one or the other or Necas or anybody on the team wouldn't be off limits value wise.Lol, both are obviously off limits in a Pettersson trade.
His contract is not a good thing man. Maybe he gets back to 100 points or maybe he continues to be a below ppg, minus player like he is right now. At nearly $12M per season that's a big risk to take, even with the cap going up. Not one that would warrant Jarvis (on a great contract) or Nikishin (limitless upside with a likely high floor as well, plus likely relatively cheap at least for a few years) going back the other way. And I've been high on EP in the past and wanted us to trade Necas for him last year (and many here probably know I'm super high on Necas), but I really am not a fan of that contract with how he's playing this year.I can see why Nikishin would have been off limits before the extension, but with EP's extension, I think Nikishin is fair game. That said, I wouldn't trade Jarvis or Aho or Slavin or Necas for EP as it doesn't do anything for us as a whole other than make us more expensive. Adding EP to the core group is the key, not rearranging the deck chairs. I would trade Nikishin for him if he was the "biggest" piece going the other way.
Jarvis is a hell no, he just signed a sweet 8 year deal with us and helped out by doing some deferred salary...plus his contract is WAY more of a value than EP. And I think Jarvy has a kind of drive and tenacity that this team needs more of, not less of, he's a Rod kinda guy. If EP stays a consistent 100 pt producer on that contract maybe, but that's not currently who he's been.I can see why Nikishin would have been off limits before the extension, but with EP's extension, I think Nikishin is fair game. It makes for an interesting negotiation.EP is damaged goods & shouldn’t get the same package discussed last year before the new contract.
Are you getting a 100 point player? That's the question. If you don't than the 12 mill a year makes the KK contract look like one hell of a deal.I can see why Nikishin would have been off limits before the extension, but with EP's extension, I think Nikishin is fair game. How’s he damaged goods coming off a 89 point season? Hes also a guy who’s got a good track record come playoff time 24 points in 30 gamesEP is damaged goods & shouldn’t get the same package discussed last year before the new contract.
Synergy.True. We can instead trade for an already mishandled contract.
He's a $12m per year player playing at a 64 point pace, which, is basically a regression back to his career average outside of the last 2 years, which isn't great when he's in year 1 of an 8 year deal. How’s he damaged goods coming off a 89 point season? The return was Tuch, Krebs and a couple picks. I'd say Necas, Jarvis or Nikishin individually all top that package by quite a bit. Yeah Tuch broke out with the Sabres but at the time of the trade he was an older inconsistent roughly 40-50 point guy.Eichel had some red flags and didn't always have the production everyone expected out of him. It was a big risk, especially with the injury, and he didn't even produce amazingly well straight away in Vegas, but it sure worked out. I'd take the bet on the talent of Pettersson in that same way if we have the chance.

Not a bad comparison though in terms of the risks and upside. I'm definitely open to an EP trade, but not including Jarvis or Nikishin. Necas is a maybe, entirely dependent on how negotiations are going with him which we aren't privy to at all. If it seems like we have no chance of signing him long term I'd consider moving him for EP, otherwise prefer to keep him here long term as a part of this core.
Who could we add instead of Koivunen since he's in Pitt? Do you add FUS/Nadeau?Krebs was Vegas' top prospect and highly considered around the League, Button had him as the 20th best NHL affiliated prospect in April 2021. For comparison sake Nikishin is 2nd as of November 2024, and Ville Koivunen is 34th.
Tuch was 25 and stuck on a stacked Vegas team, his production improved when he went to Buffalo.
That said, Eichel flat wanted out, while EP40 putatively wants to stay, he just doesn't like Miller. The source of the Eichel drama was he wanted a certain procedure done for his neck injury while the team didn't want him to do that, for whatever reason. Just like Vegas wasn't sure if they were getting damaged goods with Eichel, the team trading for EP40 isn't sure if they're getting the 100 point version of the hastag lazy euro 60 point version.
Carolina's comparable to the Eichel deal is Necas + Koivunen/Morrow + pick. Don't know if Canucks would do that, wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.
