Somehow, a part of me thinks trading for Guentzel and paying the inside-the-division tax isn't a Canes sort of move. We've done inside-the-division trades before, notably the Skjei trade, but at the time the Rangers were still in the building phase and Pittsburgh is sort of stuck in a weird spot about contending vs. rebuilding.

I get that Drury’s a young roster player and that was part of the rumored ask, but he’s an illogical trade piece otherwise. There are just 4 centers on the team and Kotkaniemi is not producing. They can’t afford to move him at this time.

Drury makes sense in a Zegras trade or a trade for another young centerman, but not in a trade for a true winger.

Unless there’s a center move coming.

And I don’t mean another 25% off Johansen.

You mean on the current roster, right? Yeah, that makes sense.
Obviously, there's been some speculation and there are exceptions, but it usually doesn't make sense to remove pieces from your roster.

Nah, he also talked about how adding pieces could mess with the chemistry and how everyone remembers the deadline acquisition that wins the Cup, but forgets the 30 others that don't.

He didn't come out and say we weren't making a deal, but his language strongly hinted at it.

Meh, I feel like he has that message every year and we usually make at least the minor moves. I'd be surprised if we did nothing, especially with the moves we made today. Most likely closer to last year in significance, but we clearly need extra depth if nothing else.

What chemistry though? Apart from SAT going hot on occasion and MSF being possession monsters but rarely a scoring threat, we've been doing line blenders all season trying to find a second scoring line
