I’d be reluctant to do that trade. I think Mittlestadt is going to need a new contract too soon for a good evaluation and we would end up letting him walk and then lose the assets to quickly.

My one question mark with Mittelstadt is if Brindy would actually play him at center. His presence at center has been inconsistent even in Buffalo and it's reasonable to be skeptical that he can play center for the Hurricanes considering that he is 25. I'd be more willing to gamble a trade package on Zegras (who has similar question marks) because he's 3 years younger and locked to a bridge.

Im okay with giving Mittlestadt a 20 game trial run at center to see if it works but that is a pricey trial.
1. he is young winger insurance if Necas does give us a hard time in negotiations
2. we can always flip him to a team with lower center standards if he doesnt work out or wants too much to keep.
3. he could follow the same path as reinhart and really show his potential when away from the Buffalo mess. I fully understand they arent the same type players im just saying a similar jump in performance.

im not sold on his ability to play center here either. He isnt a big goal scorer and we have a bunch of playmakers now. So, he isnt really solving a need.

Yea, he's not bad at faceoffs at roughly 46% +/- 2%/yr, but it's just another pass-first guy where we pass ourselves into oblivion because nobody will shoot the damn puck (or will shoot it into shins or 10ft wide). Unless we see him as a TT replacement? I think if you have Drury though the prospect probably needs to be a tier below Morrow probably. If you include waved-off goals they're probably tied this year in goal-scoring lol

we have so many contracts up this summer that i’ve given up even trying to come up with hypothetical future line ups because at this point the borg could take our roster in a million different directions and we could have half a line up of new faces come october

It would be nice if the Jarvis extension is completed before the deadline and give the Canes some certainty before the offseason.

Could be, maybe they want both sense Zegras is still hurt and they’d need someone to fill in Necas’ spot.

But I have a feeling if they’re looking at ANH it’s Henrique and/or Vatrano

Vatrano makes sense outside of his high shooting percentage. If they make a trade for him, though, they've likely done their homework on how impactful he would be even if his points fall off. Zegras is the better buy-low, however.

So who from the canes roster is going the other way for Henrique, zegras or vatrano?

Nothing for Henrique or Vatrano; picks and 5-10 range prospects likely will be enough for those two. Zegras, on the other hand, will most likely require one of Drury or Ponomaryov to go back and the prospects will probably need be of a higher quality, around the 2-5 range (Nikishin is untouchable).

Been busy with work travel..is Alex Wennberg as a Canes target old news? Popped up on my Insta today.

If true, prepare for a booktok invasion.
“Oh, Alex Wennberg,” she says, over a photo of the athlete on Google Images. “Baby, I might not got five holes, but I got three --

Ok. Everyone stay calm. This is not a drill.* Please delete every mention of #canesafterdark.

(* It's really not, and Kierra, we aren't going to watch it evolve into one.)

Not every defensive D falls off a cliff like Vlasic did. Some do the Chris Tanev instead. It's up to the Canes to figure out whether Pesce is the next Vlasic or the next Tanev.

Not sure if this has been brought up but:

Suppose it could be related to this:

But hope not.

Admittedly grasping at straws here, the lack of leaks this deadline has been remarkable.

Anaheim has a variety of intriguing options I could see canes being interested in Henrique, Vatrano for sure. If they want a guy with some term at a good price maybe Strome? Or if we wanna get really crazy what about something built around Terry and Necas?
