I think the chemistry aspect is a little overblown in terms of trades. They obviously arent trading any major pieces off the NHL roster, if any at all. Drury can also look toward guys who have a familiarity with Gallant, or some of the star players so its a more seamless transition. Ideally they add 2 forwards that bump McKegg/Gauthier into being healthy scratches

The Rangers in 1991 traded Kevin Miller to the Red Wings for Joey Kocur. The Rangers weren't a great team but they were leading their division at the trading deadline. Neil Smith made that trade and the team basically lost every game left in the regular season. Pittsburgh won the Patrick Division. Chemistry is important. It all depends on the results. Miller wasn't a great player but he was a key player on that team and the Rangers traded for a washed tomato can with two bad hands who couldn't really fight anymore.

The Rangers need better players than Hunt, Gauthier and McKegg. Those players makeup 1/2 of their bottom six. People are complaining about Gallant. He should be one of the three nominees for the Jack Adams looking at some of the forward options he has at his disposal. People were complaining about Rooney playing in OT against Boston or Detroit. He doesn't have that many options. He could have been sending a message to Drury. Get me better players.

I think using KAM as a trade chip now is a great idea. I've been impressed with his offense recently, but am not so sure about his defense yet. Hopefully other teams have taken notice of him recently and will value him highly.

I know there are rumors out there that Scheifele is available...would love to see us get him. Would have no problem moving KAM, Lundqvist, and Kravstov in some sort of deal involving him.

Actually, it's a terrible idea. He just turned 22 and is only getting better. We also don't have anyone to replace him, short or long term.

If you're using KAM as a trade chip, it better be for a full-blown #1 center type of return. Scheifele would theoretically fit that bill but I don't think I'd want to make that move.

Definitely think that KAM is on a completely different tier than Lundkvist and Kravtsov, though. They aren't really comparable at all.

The one that always sticks in my craw is Ridley and Miller for Carpenter. Washington shot up in the standings and we faded hard. One of the worst trades ever.

I totally agree about the bottom 6, they need 2 more actual NHL players at forward.

The chemistry stuff Brooks is talking about is directly related to acquiring JT Miller imo. Forget that Miller is an ex-Ranger for a second; hes a top line producing, all situations player who plays with an edge and tenacity that the Rangers dont currently have in their top 6. The problem with trading for him now is that Strome will know that hes a goner and that can absolutely negatively effect the room. Drury has to weigh the pros and cons and its not an easy decision.

Absolutely. Gaut and McKegg were extras in training camp. They are not playing due to merit. They are playing because Blais and Kakko got hurt and Kravtsov f***ed off to Siberia. The hand-wringing about Barron’s usage is too much—he’s not a difference maker either, a marginal improvement at best. Drury needs to overhaul the third line in a significant way.

Hard pass on trading KAM, or Schneider for that matter. Tampa had at least one of Hedman, Sergachev, McD (if not 2) on the ice basically the entire game the last 2 playoff runs. I envision the Rangers looking at Fox/Miller/Schneider similarly. Can you imagine what these guys will look like together as 25 year olds?

Who was the guy on here that said that the only player he'd trade K'Andre Miller for is McDavid?

Is Paul Stastny a thing? I hope that’s not a real target. If it is, no more than a 4th… please.

If we add Copp and Lehkhonen, I'd be ecstatic
Same here.
At most the cost won’t likely exceed a late 1st and Kravtsov to get both on the team, maybe even less.
Both guys also have potential to be here longer then this season if that is the direction the FO/Drury wants to go in.
Both those guys make us better 5v5 and can move up and down the line up to find chemistry if need be.
they can also be solid additions to the PK, and Definite upgrades on the forecheck. Both have good wheels, can chip in offensively, and don’t mind throwing their bodies around when the physical play intensifies in the post season.
They may not be the most high profile as far as names/targets go, but we’ll be a much better team adding them to our bottom 6.

Are the Rangers trying to convince Kravtsov to change his mind about returning to NY? Elliotte Friedman said about that last Thursday on the NHL network. Teams know Kravtsov plans to play in The NHL next season and some teams believe the Rangers are trying to convince Vitaly to return to the Rangers.

Larry Brooks wondered if the Rangers players would accept Kravtsov back into the room after he bolted for Russia. He mentioned that in one of the NY Post podcasts. This time Ryan Reeves will beat up Vitaly for real and everything will be OK.

Him playing on the NYR would produce the most value as oppose to trading him for 50 cents on the dollar.

short answer, no. For a myriad of reasons discussed at length and tirelessly already on these forums...
The biggest reason being, it sets a horrible precedent for kids who have waited their turn and did things the right way, are are still waiting for their ice time

Agreed, for sure. Some of the things I’ve read make me think it’d be more like 10 cents on the dollar too.

this is a terrible idea.

scheifele is strome with slightly better offense and even worse defense.

On top of this, the defense is only going to get better.

You have Nils, Jones, and Robertson all still on the way and they, as well as Schneider and Miller, are all still getting better.

Hell, Fox might still be getting better.

Defense is going to be a very strong positive.

I do think it's possibly true that - and I think this this is for way in the future still - that they might need to hunt for a Ryan McDonagh type at some point at a deadline, but that deadline is not this deadline or next deadline.

They have their Hedman in Fox. They hopefully have a Sergechev-level player in one of these other kids, maybe Miller. But as for the rest, is there a McDonagh-level player in that group or are they all Troubas? Might be a spot where you snag a Charlie McAvoy or a Dougie Hamilton at a deadline from a rebuilding team for a haul. But again, this is for when they are truly ready to compete and also for when they've filled out their forward core with a couple more young players including centers.
McAvoy >>>>> Hamilton. One is really good at defending and the other is weak. They are not the same caliber or type of player. But i agree with your basic premise which is be patient and let the kids develop for a cup run in future years.

Maybe there's a grey area... Miscommunication in management, where the guys that promised him the world are gone.

Set the standard moving forward. He's a great talent and hopefully with a chip on his shoulder, he proves his worth... take the risk for strike3 or sell him at bargain bin prices.

I want to see what Krav can do in the NHL. We had a chance at Wahlstrom, Dobson and others and took him. We cannot allow him become a star somewhere else without getting him on the ice for a long stretch. There are two sides to every story and so both sides should suck it up and get him playing when his stint in Russia ends. His value is severely diminished so this is no time to deal him.

Not a Kravtsov fan, but desperate times call for desperate measures i guess. I question how it could effect the locker room, but the leadership core seems pretty sturdy as long as Kravtsov understands whats expected of him. I love Goodrow, but Panarin/Strome need a finisher on their RW desperately

Now Drury is trying to acquire a player to replace Buchnevich. What will Radulov cost? He isn't 1/2 player right now at his stage of his career in comparison to Buchnevich.

Trust me, no one disagrees that the Buch move was a turd sandwich

Count me out on adding any (pricey) pieces to compete. Nemeth and Georgie out, that is the top priority at the TDL. Get what you can for them.

Keep Filip please! The hands are back, he has wheels and experience. Dude has 227 NHL games at 22yo. I missed last game, but the game before he made me believe in him again.
Great middle-6 C/W option.

I can't wait for the playoffs to determine who's a no-show and who's baller. Weed out the roster accordingly.
Most importantly Strome. If he's a no show... re-sign as cheap as possible and deal away next season.

You know what, this is a great point.

Its been a while since this team has been in the postseason and its a different animal. Players like Goodrow (and I could see Rooney too) have more of impact because the game changes, and pretty drastically at times.

There are different routes on the ice and the puck finds itself in different spots compared to regular season play. You want to see what playoff players you want to keep around.

Wouldve been nice to see Blais - because he was brought in for that reason, one of those players having won a Cup and being a "gamer"

We havent seen much of the roster in postseason play and with so much youth I am also eager to see who rises to the occasion. You never know if a even a young guy like Chytil (or even Laf, given his big moment prowess) becomes a big time gamer and lights it up in the postseason, as the puck just seems to find them more. It just clicks.

Its extremely difficult to forecast who it will be, to your point. So you dont want to give up on players (esepcially the young ones) until you really see what you have.

As far Strome goes, I will say in the play in tournament I remember he was one of the more engaged players - but that was a very unique situation and not necessarily the same as a normal post season.

Agreed it wasn’t good for the ‘91 team, but Kocur won a Cup with the Rangers two years later and two more on a powerhouse Red Wings team years later. He had a role on both of these teams and played nearly every playoff game for all three cup runs. Calling him a tomato can isn’t being particularly honest.

If Kravstov wants to come back, hes got to approach the Rangers. Put him on the first line, build his stat line up after a few games so teams come calling and then trade his dumb ass a week later

Otherwise im fine trading him in a package for the right player as an extra to bring in someone that fits, even if his value is reduced. He is giving nothing to the Rangers right now and I doubt he would anytime in the future.

Its wise the Rangers say they want to repair the relationship and bring him back, even if its BS, so he is perceived as an NHL ready player around the league.
